Genesis 6 button controller won't map all buttons
-
Pi Model 4, 4gb
Built from pre-made image, 4.6I've been using / building my Pi for years, and recently with the 4.6 image, I essentially rebuilt it from scratch with the clean install. Everything has been working great (even things that hadn't worked so well in the past - like NAM and some Doom mods in 'ports').
However, I've noticed that I can no longer map all buttons on my 6-button Genesis controller.
I'm using a retrousb Genesis RetroPort, have tested two separate cables on 2 different controllers - both a more recent Genesis Hyperkin 6 Button controller, as well as one of my original Sega 6 Button controllers.
When I try to map through the main GUI, the extra buttons simply do not register. I have to skip them.
I've manually edited the controller .cfg to see if that would work, but they still don't register in-game.I have tested a Genesis game using a PS3 Controller to confirm that all buttons register in-game for a 6 button setup (they do), so it's not a rom / emulator issue.
It worked on all of my previous Pi builds.
Is there an issue on Pi4 / 4.6 with the retrousb adapter? Any thoughts or anyone else experiencing this? Thanks!

You can tell if the buttons are registering correctly by using
jstest
from the command line. When start, it shows the buttons/hats/joysticks reported by the controller and you can press any buttons to see if/how they register. To use
jstest
, exit EmulationStation and type at the command promptjstest /dev/input/js0
You can then test each button press to see if it's registering - see if the problematic buttons are registering and what number/input code they're associated with.
You can interrupt the test by pressing
Ctrl + C
and then go back to EmulationStation by typingemulationstation

Awesome, thank you!
Ran the test and determined only the standard 4 buttons are registering. The additional buttons from the 6 button pad do not appear.
I did have this working on previous RetroPies, and also just tested it on my PC and confirmed that all buttons are being registered there. Perhaps I'll reach out to RetroUsb and see if there's a recent compatibility issue.
Appreciate the help.
