Cannot Access RGUI in-game
-
I’m trying to follow this guide (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Cheats/) to install some cheats on an n64 game. The specific game is Rogue Squadron.
The simpler issue was I couldn’t seem to find online update after turning on Show Online Updater. The bigger one is that I can’t seem to call the RGUi in game. I tried using Select + X in Rogue Squadron and other games, but it always either paused the game or did nothing.
I suspect it’s because I configured by controller/s incorrectly. I used this (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/#configuring-n64-usb-controller-for-use-with-retropie-accurately) to make the controls work for my N64 games. Here is my /opt/retropie/configs/n64/InputAutoCfg.ini file.
Also, if someone could knows how to copy text from a file in retropie to Macbook, I’d appreciate it.Specs:

RetroPie is loaded on the microSD card and my games are loaded from a usb flash drive.IMG_3546.JPG -
@helloThere First of all, are you using
mupen64plus
or
lr-mupen64plus?
The former is a standalone emulator.
The latter is a libretro core (RetroArch).
If you're not using the lr- version then you won't be able to get into RGUI because mupen64plus is not running in RetroArch.
The reason why there are two versions is on the page you linked:
"While the lr-mupen64plus core has the convenience of RetroArch configurations and directly reading zip compressed files, the actual Mupen64plus does better with performance."
-
That's kind of embarrassing. The part I was linked to only talked about editing the actual file, but I didn't bother to read the whole page.
I was using a version of mupen64plus. I tried running Rogue Squadron on lr-mupen64plus, but all I got was a blank screen. I can access the RGUI, though. I switched back to mupen64plus, and it still run (albeit with very bad graphics) but still can't open RGUI. I also tried running lr-mupen64plus on all other games, including another n64 game, and they all seem to run fine.
I think it's either an issue with the ROM (may check that) or natural with how the first Rogue Squadron runs on liberto emulators.
I ran the game on lr-mupen64plus with verbose logging, and found the runcommand.log file, but can't seem to find any errors. I would have posted the file, but I have a Mac, so I don't think I can copy over the actual log file

as said, it won't. there's no RGUI to open. RGUI is only available on lr- prefix emulators.
lr-mupen64plus, but all I got was a blank screen
did you try lr-mupen65plus-next? is your retropie up to date? -next should be more or less the same compatibility as standalone mupen64plus-gliden64
-
@dankcushions yep.
I checked and it's on version 4.6.4. I installed it less than a week ago, so it should be up to date.
-
@helloThere that's the version of your setup script, not the emulators. as you haven't fully filled out https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first i can't be sure what version you would be running, but I would update lr-mupen64plus-next by source to confirm you have the latest version.

You can transfer files to and from the Pi using SSH. It's disabled by default so you need to enable it:
- In EmulationStation go to RetroPie menu
- RASPI-CONFIG
- 5 Interfacing Options
- P2 SSH
- <Yes> when asked if you want the SSH server enabled
- <Ok>
- <Finish> in the RASPI-CONFIG menu
- Reboot your RPi
You then need an SSH (SFTP) client. FileZilla is a popular one on Windows, and there's an OSX version available:
https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?platform=osx
FileZilla should be largely self-explanatory, just make sure you select:
- Protocol: SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol
- Host: IP address of your Pi
- User: pi
- Password: whatever you set it to (raspberry by default)

Thanks, @stoo. I tried using SSH before, but I used a different software on my computer. Filezilla worked like a charm. Here's the link to the log file for lr-mupen64plus: https://pastebin.com/embed_js/hffDV0N0
@dankcushions I'm not sure how to check emulator versions. I just got lr-mupen64plus-next and updated all the emulators I have installed. Rogue Squadron looks very nice on lr-mupen64plus-next and I can get to the RGUI, but the audio is very choppy and the graphics stutter. I also can’t seem to find my save game and the controls are all messed up when using it. The save game and controls work fine in mupen-64plus, though. If it helps at all, here's the runcommand.log file: https://pastebin.com/embed_js/qjGUEGxB
Is there anything else that would help?

@helloThere poor performance in mupen64plus-next is expected right now, i just wouldn't expect it to crash, so now that's fixed i'm happy :) i would use standalone mupen64plus-gliden64 until we have news on -next.
