can confirm this fix makes badlands work on Raspberry Pi4.
        thanks for the work.

Cool, I'll let @pjft make the pull request to the retropie repo, as he led me down the correct debug path.

@DirtBagXon Great to hear it worked and that it helped.

Please, by all means, do submit the PR over there, it's perfectly fair game. The alternative will still be for me to go and cherry-pick your commit there - it'll always be your original commit :)

@pjft - right you are sir.

I couldn't get Github to let me fork retropie as I had a fork from a mutual parent repo, which it kept linking me to. Github being annoyingly clever....

In the end I gave up and created a new account to fork within, but got there eventually lol. Pull request from the all new DirtBagZon...

              @DirtBagXon Hah :) Yes, it's a pain.

In the past I followed this with some success - https://gist.github.com/bhumphrey/3764983 .

Thanks for looking into it, and happy singe-ing .

By the way, the original Singe developer seems to be back at it, and working on a version 2.0 of the emulator, so if that's something that interests you, it should be worth looking out for.

Yep, I have been following Scott's project, he was even kind enough to star my current singe repo too :)

He seems to be getting there... I don't envy him that job....

I saw scott had a zip file with an executable for raspberry pi. Is there anyway we can grab this https://kangaroopunch.com/api/files.ssjs?call=download-file&dir=singe&file=s200p32.zip in terminal and install it in retropie? (i was gonna follow your steps but then 2.0 showed up) . Thanks for all you have done so far.

                      Heya @TreasureFingers,

You can grab the Singe v2 file via wget in a terminal on your RetroPie.

                      wget "https://kangaroopunch.com/api/files.ssjs?call=download-file&dir=singe&file=s200p32.zip" -O s200p32.zip

                      unzip s200p32.zip

I don't think anyone has posted a procedure to set it up in RetroPie yet..

Feel free to play and post back here.

FYI: I finally figured out how to get the original Time Gal and Ninja Hayate bytecode .singe files working in version 1.18.
So there is now no need to switch timegal.singe, hayate.singe to the ones in the repo, as detailed above.

The new Singe v2 games seems to have updated overlays , which are very cool, but do move away from the original arcade game look and feel somewhat.
So I think version 1.18 might still be a route for the traditionalists at this point.

But I am sure all this will change as v2 develops.....

inside the folder were these contents

                        • controls.cfg.example

What should be my next steps?

I just downloaded some of the v2 games from kangaroopunch and unzipped them in the same directory. Then ran ./Menu.sh

The new games are packaged and configured to run in v2.

Running v1 games involves playing with the CLI commands:

                          Usage:  Singe-v2.00-Pi-armv6 [OPTIONS] scriptName{.singe}

                            -a, --aspect=N:D force aspect ratio
-c, --showcalculated show calculated framefile values for debugging
-d, --datadir=PATHNAME alternate location for written files
-e, --volume_nonvldp=PERCENT specify sound effects volume in percent
-f, --fullscreen run in full screen mode
                            -h, --help this display
-k, --nologos kill the splash screens
-l, --volume_vldp=PERCENT specify laserdisc volume in percent
                            -m, --nomouse disable mouse
-n, --nocrosshair request game not display gun crosshairs
-s, --nosound, --mutesound mutes all sound
-t, --trace trace script execution to screen and file
-u, --stretch use ugly stretched video
-v, --framefile=FILENAME use an alternate video file
-w, --fullscreen_window run in windowed full screen mode
                            -x, --xresolution=VALUE specify horizontal resolution
                            -y, --yresolution=VALUE specify vertical resolution
                            -z, --noconsole zero console output

Something like this (with appropriate paths):

                          ./Singe-v2.00-Pi-armv6 [OPTION] -v timegal.txt timegal.singe

Although I had varying success here.

oh ok so the ./Menu.sh builds a menu in terminal and not in the emulationstation/retropie gui hmm i wonder what its gonna take to get it in emulationstation. Also Dirtbagxon you been pretty great with your help so far just wanted to mention that. is it 'its own thing now or does it still rely on daphne?

Both v2 and my v1.18 repo are standalone Singe.

Pleasure helping out, but I'm afraid I don't know the Emulationstation interface to help there.

First install the correct tools and libraries:

                                sudo apt-get install git make build-essential libasound2-dev libcaca-dev libglew-dev libglib2.0-dev libogg-dev libpcre3-dev libpcre32-3 libpng-dev libpng-tools libpulse-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-ttf2.0-dev libsdl1.2-dev libslang2-dev libvorbis-dev libxi-dev pkg-config

After this point there is the result (I have translated from Italian to english error message):

                                To continue? [Y / n] Y
Selected package libjbig-dev: armhf not previously selected.
                                dpkg: fatal unrecoverable error, exit:
the file with the file list of the "raspi-config" package is missing the final newline

                                I continued ignoring the error

                                cd ~
                                git clone https://github.com/DirtBagXon/singe.git singe

                                Here everything is ok.

                                cd singe

                                 make -f Makefile.linux

                                Here everything is ok.

                                 cd ../game/singe
                                 make -f Makefile.linux

After this command instead the error was this:

                                  sudo apt-get install git make build-essential libasound2-dev libcaca-dev libglew-dev libglib2.0-dev libogg-dev libpcre3-dev libpcre32-3 libpng-dev libpng-tools libpulse-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-ttf2.0-dev libsdl1.2-dev libslang2-dev libvorbis-dev libxi-dev pkg-config

                                  E: Sub-process / usr / bin / dpkg returned an error code (2)

                                  I continued ignoring the error

You need to clear this error or the dependencies will not be installed and you will see the later errors.

Looks like you packaging system is a little broken.

What happens if you run the following two commands?

                                  sudo apt-get update

                                  sudo apt-get upgrade

It looks like a broken package file, so the above may work, it could also be filesystem corruption (sd card), seems to be some similar issues here:

                                  https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=187936

If you can't get the development packages installed, try running the compiled binaries I put in the repository:

From the folder singe folder you cloned via git:

                                  cd binaries/$(uname -m)

                                  cp *.so singe.bin ../..

                                  cd ../..

                                  Then ./run.sh

@dirtbagxon Thank you for the answer, I did the upgrades as you told me, but I got the same error as before, so now I'm testing the SD and if everything is ok I reinstall Retropie "clean" and then I immediately install your package. I keep you updated.

@dirtbagxon You were right, it was just a Retropie installation error. Now everything goes. To your scripts I just had to add this line:

                                      cp ~/singe/pics/* ~/.daphne/pics/

because the system could not find this file: ConsoleFont.bmp (and probably the same error would have given it also for the other .bmp)

I changed your script (run.sh) to have the full screen on a Full HD (1920 x 1080) TV by changing the -x and -y parameters, because I noticed that the -fullscreen command is not recognized.

For Ninjia Hayate and Timetraveler I kept your parameters -x 800 and -y 600 because unfortunately they don't accept higher resolutions.

Now I want to try ActionMax.

Thanks for everything. I keep you updated.

I have altered the repo README to clarify the installation process, thank you.

I changed your script (run.sh) to have the full screen on a Full HD (1920 x 1080) TV by changing the -x and -y parameters, because I noticed that the -fullscreen command is not recognized.

The -fullscreen option should work thus:

                                        ./run.sh -fullscreen timegal

Can you supply the error if this doesn't work ?

No error returns but the image remains 800x600 in the upper left corner. It is as if the -fullscreen parameter is not considered at all.

Interesting, I am unable to replicate this, effectively SDL ignoring:

                                            sdl_flags |= SDL_FULLSCREEN;

                                            Anyone else seen this issue?

                                            Perhaps a Retropie frontend setting?

If you make these changes in run.sh

                                            if [ "$1" = "-fullscreen" ]; then
                                            - FULLSCREEN="-fullscreen"
                                            + FULLSCREEN="-fullscreen_window"
                                                shift
                                            fi

Then run with the -fullscreen argument again?
