Install mame4all - RetroPie
-
Hi all.
I’ve been using RetroPie for probably 2yrs now and it’s worked pretty well. I’ve had MAME issues with some games/ROMs and thought I’d try to install mame4all-pi. I already have lr-mame2000 and lr-mame2003 installed and working. A vast majority of my mame games run under lr-mame2003 while just a couple use lr-mame2000. I mostly play 80s arcade games and maybe some 90s. I went to https://github.com/RetroPie/mame4all-pi to download the zip. I just don’t know what to do with it (aside from unzip it!). What Mame source files & folders go where in RetroPie? I’ve dug through the docs/links and it doesn’t make sense to me. Thanks!
I have a Pi 3b+ running RetroPie 4.3. Please try not to just reply with URLs - I’ve most likely been there already. -
mame4all-rpi
is an old an unmaintained MAME fork. It's only useful when using a Pi1/0, for it's speed. If you're using a Pi3B+,lr-mame2003
orlr-fbneo
are recommended for arcade emulation. If you're having issues with ROMs, make sure you're using the right ROM set/collection for your emulator - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/.
To install
mame4all
(or any other additional emulator), you'll need to use the RetroPie-Setup script - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#updatinginstalling-individual-packages. The archive you downloaded from https://github.com/RetroPie/mame4all-pi is the source of the emulator, which needs to be compiled and then installed/configured to be used with RetroPie - that is automatically done by the RetroPie setup script, so you don't need to do it manually. -
@mitu How or where do you install lr-fbneo? I read the links you provided but it doesn’t explain. If I go to ‘manage packages’ in RetroPi I can pick lr-fbalpha. There’s no FBNeo to choose.

@zabagar sounds like your retropie is very out of date. Please provide information when requesting help
Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
(Ah I see you did mention your version. You will need to update as we can't support such an old version).

@BuZz Yeah, I’ve read that already. I already posted the version I’m using.
