Joystick won't work on some spectrum games
-
I have a c64 competition pro joystick and for some spectrum games I can not get the joystick to work.
I started with the lr-fuse but thend switched to fuse and no matter what joystick I change it too i.e Sinclair or Kempston it will not work.
In some games it does work and these seem to be the ones that support Sinclair joysticks and when I change it to Sinclair it works.
An example of one that does not work is matchday 1 ..no matter what it will not move the players.
Is there a way to get the joystick to work on all spectrum games?

@chris3535 you might consider switching to FBNeo, i believe we don't have those joystick issues (compatible joystick is automatically set), beware of the fact it requires usage of specific romsets though (https://github.com/libretro/FBNeo/tree/master/src/burner/libretro#emulating-consoles)
-
@barbudreadmon I'm confused how do I set that up in retropie?
-
@chris3535 i believe retropie already has FBNeo as a choice for zx spectrum, so all you need is to build the romsets with clrmamepro + dat file

@barbudreadmon that sounds well out of my league mate

Most games on the spectrum support kempston (excluding very early titles). How are you switching to kempston on lr-fuse? You should enter retroarch gui with hotkey + x, then scroll down and choose controls, switch port 1 controls to kempston, then save either game remap or core remap depending if you want it for just one game or all with that emulator.
To use a keyboard directly as a keyboard on lr-fuse you need to configure it as Sinclair keyboard for port 3.
Many games still require a keyboard press to start. Either use select for the virtual on screen keyboard or keyboard directly if set up as I mentioned.

@buzz this is where I'm getting stuck then. When you say say press hotkey and x where do I do this? As pressing the hotkey on my joystick and the key x on keyboard does nothing at all.

@chris3535 It's the
X
button on the gamepad. Do you have one set-up ? If not, then tryF1
on the keyboard. Note - this applies to thelr-fuse
emulator, not the standalonefuse

@mitu no I'm using a joystick not a game pad I'll have a go in a minute and see if that works

Mostly a matter of reading documentation or not, but suit yourself if you can manage with fuse.

@mitu Hi yes that worked...i can now play most games (not all) but I can live with that. thanks for your help

hi, just following up on a very old topic!
Latest retropie build from the retropie site -downloaded sept 22. I have an ipac 2 and a physical joystick, that works Left Right Up Down and fire in all other retroarch emulators.
I initially had the same issue - I've set the keyboard to port 3 as above, and kempston as port 1 and both lr-fuse, and fuse, 'sees' the L R U D and fire inputs as kempston.
However - when I press a direction the game i'm playing pauses. Same if i use the usb keyboard attached. I've tried changing the options/time to release the key in MS and it seems related. its almost as if a direction key, holds down the key and freezes the emulator or game, until I move in another direction and so on.
I just tried port 1 to retropad and used the arrow keys on the usb keyboard - same effect.
Any advice please welcome how i can address this!
thanks
