      @Robs said in Help setting up controls ZX Spectrum:

      I want to be able to define some additional keys on the gamepad in addition to the kempston joystick function eg Atic Atac i want kempston plus a button to press "z" to pick up an object. I want this for only this ROM

      I don't think that would work without involving an external utility like xboxdrv to remap a button combo to emit a key. Something like https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Universal-Controller-Calibration-%26-Mapping-Using-xboxdrv/.

      Some games I want to use the keyboard. However some keys seem to fast forward the game or pause regardless of game. Where can I check those functions? Again I would like to define a normal keyboard for eg the hobbit

      Just press the Scroll Lock key to toggle RetroArch into Game Focus mode where the keyboard is exclusively used by the emulated system, any RetroArch key bindings are ignored (incl. hotkey combos). Press Scroll Lock again to be able to regain control over RetroArch and exit. See here for a brief mention on Game Focus in RetroArch guides.

      @pjft This seems potentially very exciting news. I had a fiddle around with the Next a few months ago but got terrible framerates except by running it in a Raspbian environment outside of Retropie. If it could be made to run as an ES system that would be awesome.

      @buzz that's very true. I suppose it's the case of someone being a keyboard user or a gamepad user for that system. Equally they'd have to know to setup specific controls for each game as well, so I guess it depends how nitty gritty you'd want to get.

      Either way though having the config set as Retropad will always do nothing for some reason. But you're right, maybe it's something for libretro devs to fix than Retropie

      hi, just following up on a very old topic!

      Latest retropie build from the retropie site -downloaded sept 22. I have an ipac 2 and a physical joystick, that works Left Right Up Down and fire in all other retroarch emulators.

      I initially had the same issue - I've set the keyboard to port 3 as above, and kempston as port 1 and both lr-fuse, and fuse, 'sees' the L R U D and fire inputs as kempston.

      However - when I press a direction the game i'm playing pauses. Same if i use the usb keyboard attached. I've tried changing the options/time to release the key in MS and it seems related. its almost as if a direction key, holds down the key and freezes the emulator or game, until I move in another direction and so on.

      I just tried port 1 to retropad and used the arrow keys on the usb keyboard - same effect.

      Any advice please welcome how i can address this!

      thanks

      @chris3535 as @mitu said, I needed to go into the retroarch settings for lr-fuse and set the control 3 option to keyboard, works fine now.

      @mitu , I have a system set up with 4 controllers on my pi400 and would like to use the keyboard to search for the game that I would like to play, from the ALL GAMES list. Is there a way to do this ? I do not want to use the keyboard as a controller, only as a way to input for game selection. Thank you!!

      @mitu Nope, did nothing, just reverted to 100% when I quit reloaded. And wouldn't be much use anyway, as I want to play it specifically in lr-fuse.

      12 months later, nearly, and it seems that my memory has grown fuzzy over the last 35 years.

      Whilst I remember, and played Total Eclipse (and it looked like a promising contender), and Marble Madness was fun, but as far as I remember, no prize, it was neither that I was thinking of, and I got the prize wrong.

      The game I had in mind was Gyron, which had a prize of a Porsche 924 or £12,500 cash for the first to complete.

      I'm so happy to have finally cleared up this mystery. :)

      @hawkes_84 No problem, glad you got it sorted. Yeah, a you can see there is no single best solution for ZX, but Retroarch offers lots of ways to deal with it. And you figured out why Q & W don't work, congrats, this has annoyed me to no end back in the day.

      @mitu
      Thanks, save/load is working.

      But strange, usb calbe keyboard is connected, also arrow-keys are working inside the retroPie, but in the Game-Menu no key is working, also no (i.e.) "5" to start the game.
      I must use the virtual keyboard (select key). But OK ....

      @mitu Yeah the original process of the game is there's a key you hit to start when the audio track prompts you to, so the game and the audio track are sync'd up. I'm not 100% sure but I doubt the spectrum ever had a microphone add on.

      @ChaosFox I have a question on vanilla VICE in Retropie you might be able to answer...

      Is there a way to move the virtual keyboard display from the very top/center of the screen. I'd like to pull it down to the bottom as it covers over any questions asked if using a cracked/trainer version of the game. I have to constantly close the display, read the question, re-open...answer.. and repeat.

      Other than that, vanilla VICE and a wireless setup is definitely the way to go .

      Thanks!

      @retropieuser555 I notice in your picture that the User 1 Device Type is set to Sinclair 1 Joystick. I tested this setting and Hen-House Harry moves to the left if I press the B button and to the right if I press the X or Y button even though I have nothing mapped to those buttons. Could you try selecting the User 1 Device Type to the Cursor or Kempston joystick?

      @chernandezba

      Ah, thank you. I've changed this over SSH for the time being through emulators.cfg as I don't have access to the device in question but I'll give it a try later and see how it performs.

      Incidentally, ZEsarUX is an incredible piece of work. I hope to use it at some point to develop a game or two for the Next :)
