Ok, totally OT, or maybe not and just 16t - but I cannot resist: what exactly is it, that is happening over here with us??? Okok, i got it... I am not a native EN speaker and I have my problems with then/than etc., but truly there/their? Don't you mean misspelings of they're/their or such? (Edit: And don't you dare to believe that I have no sense of humour/to read my words as if I felt offended :P, i simply couldn't resist %^] )
P.S.: Maybe we can add some extra retro spice to this thread (vs. threat, another classic): Does anyone remember the time (16bit Amiga times) where the (german) community started to use the term 'looser' for people they considered to be 'losers' and became really upset if people where trying to correct/educate 'em on their misspelling?

Like @simpleethat, I cringe a little every time people use "scrapping" for "scraping", or "scrapper" for "scraper". Aside from the very different meaning of these words, it shows how bad many people are in just repeating what they're reading somewhere, as nobody just came up with "scrap(p)ing" for collecting artwork and metadata automatically – they've read about it somewhere. And somewhere between reading und using it in their own posts, the "p" got added in their mind. 🤨
As for their/there/they're, I can understand why people keep confusing those in writing, because English has this particular problem of countless harmonyms – words that sound the same, but are spelled differently. In this video, a young US American living in Germany explains this quite briefly and concisely.

@clyde We've got the same problem in french. It would already be a total nightmare without all the exceptions, and the exceptions to exceptions, all the dozens of words that should be spelled exactly the same but aren't - because why make it easy on anybody?

I never really had problems knowing when to use there, their or they're. In my mind there very different. Their are a couple of friends I have though, they're kids do seem to mix it up quite often.
But seriously, its so simple. If it where a difficult thing to get right I would understand, but it really isn't. I don't know were it comes from.That almost physically hurt to write. :D
Joking aside, I noticed that I do actually sometimes get it wrong, writing they're instead of their. But I know it's wrong when I re-read it to verify what I've written. So it's a subconscious thing.

Verifying your post before sending also seems to be a dying breed of habits. That said, Murphy's Law applies there, too. No matter how often I re-read my words, I still see some errors only after posting. 🥴

Same here. And it also depends on the technical level of what I'm writing. I very often, on here, find that my thoughts are still bubbling on after posting, resulting in several edits until my mind is finally at ease. :D I suspect that can be quite confusing for someone who is already posting a reply to my initial post.

As a cyberpunk GM/player (GM in times of R.Taslorians 2013/2020 settings, player since to nowadays cycle still), I am really puzzled somehow by the thoughts how a direct human/machine interface would add to this ;P -

Then they may decide to scrap the whole thing, scrape together some scraps and hope they never get into such a scrape again! English is fucked.
Also just so ya know, whence means "from where" so it made that sentence read a bit strangely :) So like "We went to Dusseldorf, whence Kraftwerk began their domination of the world".haha you caught it :) You could say 'when', 'while' or 'whilst' there too. Again English is fucked. -
