I just got a new raspberry pi 4. I have been trying to prepare a 64gb micro sd card for retropie. I've tryed using etcher and windows32imagr, etcher doesn't work at all, it says permission not granted, and Windows32imagr does write the retro pie image but then i look at my drives and it's split my micro sd into multiple drives. I've been trying again and again, I haven't even gotten to turn on my fresh new pi yet, it's becoming a real headache, any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

@leanne that's normal behaviour. It will create multiple drives. Does it not boot when you put it into your Pi?

If you could provide the extra info requested here - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first we may be able to help further.

@markyh444 Oh that's great thanks! I understand now, this is how my micro sd looks in disk manager:

          DiskManagerPic.PNG

So when I boot the PI, the main unallocated drive will fix itself without needing to be formatted beforehand? that's handy,

Thanks a million and I'll let you know if I have any further issues with it, Happy new year!!

@leanne No problem. The unallocated space will actually be expanded on first boot of Retropie and brought into use. The image you download is compressed you see, so that there is not wasted empty space in it.
