Cannot start runcommand: read only mode, sorry [start with --edit?]
-
TL;DR
I get this error when trying to launch runcommand for a rom, though I think permissions are ok.read only mode, sorry [start with --edit?]
This problem is not new but I think I tried everything I could find about it. I would like to try different emulators for different roms. I understood I am supposed to click any button or at least the (in)famous 0 or 1 buttons when I load a rom. Now, that button must be the left of the joystick in a PS controller (because: 1) I read this on this forum; 2) it seems to do something, see below; 3) I do not know how to read the output of jstest).
When I move tot he left the joystick I see this error under my custom launching image:read only mode, sorry [start with --edit?]
retropie_setup.sh
This is the configuration I am using in $HOME/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh > Configuration > runcommand:
Launch menu: Enabled
Launch menu art: Disabled
Launch menu joystick control: Enabled
Launch image delay in seconds: 2
CPU configurationBTW I have never been able to see the grey menu "Launching <game name> Press a button to configure".
Permissions
I did try to reset ownership/permissions, I chown and chmod 777 everything I could think of. I also manually deleted
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulators.cfg
(I read this somewhere).chmod -R 777 /opt/retropie/configs chmod -R 777 /home/pi/RetroPie chmod -R 777 /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup chmod -R 777 /media/usb/retropie-mount #same with chwon -R pi:pi
I also reformatted my usb containing retropie from Fat to Ext4 so that I could set 777 permissions.
