I've set up RetroAchievements with my RetroPie. I've noticed that if I manage to complete two achievements simultaneously, it causes my emulator to completely freeze and I have to hard reset things. I've read of others who experience the same thing (https://retroachievements.org/viewtopic.php?t=11246) and it seems to be caused by multiple graphics widgets being triggered at once. In the thread I linked someone said that the issue was fixed in RetroArch version 1.8.9 but that RetroPie uses version 1.8.8. Is there a way to manually update RetroArch to version 1.8.9?

You can compile it yourself, or modify the build script (see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/27818/retroarch-1-8-9).

As a workaround, you can disable the 'new style' message widgets in RetroArch and get the old style notifications that don't have this issue. Set menu_enable_widgets = "false" in retroarch.cfg to disable.

@mitu would you recommend to install retroarch this way, or is it on ones own risk?
I also wait for a retroarch update to have the achievement sound which is possible with RA 1.90.
But i prefer to wait until you and the rest of the Team add it official to retropie to avoid running in issues.
You mentoined in another thread that RA 1.90 might be implented when RA 1.91 will be released, is this still the way that should be prefered?

My recommendation is to wait so the RetroPie included script is updated with the new version. We apply some patches locally - to the upstream source - that are useful for RetroPie users and these patches need to be re-done and re-tested when a new version is released.
