I'm in the process of building an Initial D "Ultimate" cabinet, using EmulationStation as the front end. I'm having to use a Windows machine for this due to the requirements for Naomi and later Sega Arcade systems being too much for a board like a Pi to handle.

I am having a few issues with setting up themes; for example I wish to edit the carousel and add music. I understand this is due to the fact that the version of ES provided from https://emulationstation.org/#download for Windows is severely outdated. All suggestions on how to update the Windows version point me to https://github.com/jrassa/EmulationStation/releases but all I can find here is the source code, not an update version of the Windows executable.

Please tell me where I am going wrong as this is the only thing putting the system on hold at the moment.

      Many thanks!

it looks like the current build is failing. they've already been made aware of this in their thread here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9094/updated-emulationstation-for-windows/715

that said, if you want a dedicated x86 emulation box, you don't need windows and can run retropie directly: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Debian/

@dankcushions my issue there isn't just hardware based. There is very little support for Sega Naomi , let alone Lindbergh, RingEdge, and NUu2 emulation in RetroArch. These systems are PC based to begin with, and so far I've only seen any of them successfully emulated in Windows based emulators.
