TTY keylogging behind the scenes
-
Hello forum,
I have a full build with several emulators (details below) and everything is working really well except one hiccup I cannot figure out. When using the Dreamcast emulator (Flycast), upon exiting the game back to the retropie games menu, I will see a TTY screen briefly which shows the keys I pressed during game play being logged (See image). Usually, this is just an an observable item, but occassionally if I play several games in a row, the system begins to bog and will even crash and stick on the TTY screen causing me to have to hard boot the Pi in order to get it back to EmulationStation and the carousel. My buddy and I have searched high and low with no similar issues reported. This may be happening with other emultors and maybe it is something that Retropie just does in the background, but it is only noticeable in DreamCast. We thought it may have to do with the performmance of dreamcst being more intensive than a MAME, so maybe that is why we see the screen here. The odd things is this behavior seems more Pi, Retropie, or EmulationStation rather than Dreamcast specfically We cannot find any TTY session launching in any of the Dreamcast emulator configs, so hoping the forum can assist.
Setup:
Pi400
PI power supply
RetroPie Version 4.7.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website - md5: 1ea0cbf19991273cc8b50bbca7b52806
USB Devices connected: Pi400 mouse, ipac2
Controller used: HOmemade arcade joystick and buttons connected through Ipac2
Error messages received: (See image - no error, just confirmation of the keylogging happening during during gameplay behind the scenes
Verbose log (if relevant): N/A
Guide used: N/A
File: No idea if I have a file issue.
Emulator: Dreamcast (Flycast) is the only one I am noticing this on at the moment. Also use CapCom, Daphne, MAME, Libretro, FBA, Atari, etc.
Attachment of config files: I am not sure which config file to post, please advise
How to replicate the problem: So far I have been unable to replicate with complete accuracy. Play a Dreamcast game, upon exiting the TTY screen (something similar to the attached image) shows, and only occasionaly does it crash and case a hang on the TTY screen without being able to exit back to RetroPie / EmulationStation -

It's a
lr-flycast
quirk, I remember having this weird issue with the input and not refusing to start without a tty present. I tested and could reproduce the error (withlr-flycast
only), the keyboard input seems to be sent to the background.
When using gamepad, this has no effect, but you're using a keyboard-type controller and the key strokes are sent to both the emulator and the background tty. -
@mitu - Thanks a lot for the reply. I was pretty concerned this was a config setting I had stepped on somewhere. Sounds like it is just something I will have to deal with for now and maybe a future Flycast or Retropie build will address it.

@donmonii Did you fix the problem? I recently encounter the same problem.
