I recently downgrade my Mame collection to version 0.78 (per the docs instructions for the mame2003 core) in order to get things to work properly on my Retropie. But when I load up After Burner from the 0.78 set, it crashes back to the main menu. There are few others like this. And I'm using the default core settings.

Is it normal for some titles in the 0.78 set to still not load? I thought downgrading would help my setup overall. Also, is there a compatibility list for that set/core so I can check my list. I don't wanna have to load every single game by hand to see which need removing (if I can help it).

Please add the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, including the emulator you're using.
A verbose log from the emulator would help to narrow the problem.

Maybe the particular ROM became corrupted.
Maybe that particular ROM isn't correct for the core, but was "close enough" (not really a thing) for a slightly different core? (e.g. MAME2003, MAME2003plus, MAME2010, etc.) There could be a variety of reasons. I agree, specific logs are the best "next step".
