Default Username / Password not working since updating last week.
-
- I updated my RetroPie the other day.
- I also updated the EmulationStation core package.
- After the update when it loads into RetroPie it asks me for the username and password in the command line.
- I tried using the default login (pi / raspberry) and that did not work.
- I saw many people online with the issue saying to add init=/bin/sh to the end of cmdline.txt, this didn't work. It seems to get to a certain point and get stuck and not allow me to run any commands to move forward.
My setup = Raspberry Pi 3 + Raspian + RetroPie
Let me know if you have any other questions or if I need to take pictures. I would really appreciate your help.

Looks like the auto-login service got disabled (?) because of the update - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#why-emulationstation-doesnt-start-automatically-after-an-update.
No update will change the password for the
pi
user (RetroPie or OS package update) though. Are you sure you didn't change the password for thepi
user after installation ? Which image did you use for installation ? -
@mitu Sorry for my delayed response, I've been really busy. When I did the update I went through the settings of RetroPie and selected the update there. It said I hadn't updated in a year so I figured it was a good time to do so. I don't remember changing the login credentials, however if I did that would have been long ago.
Will i just need to start over? And if so, what would be the easiest way to do that?

Back up the SD card, and flash a new image: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/#installation

@sleve_mcdichael Thank you. That worked for me. I'll make sure not to change my login in the future -_-
