Coin mechanism with Xinmotek and pi

I'm new to this. I had my pi mame system working fine. I bought a basic coin mechanism with 5 wires out of a four pin plug. 2 grey for coin counter but rest power, ground, and coin. I've connected the coin up to the select wire from my Xinmotek but doesn't register in the game when putting coins in. I have 12v power to power and ground wires.
Is this right and what do I need to do to sort please.
