i am trying to connect my bluetooth controller to my rasberry pi 4. i go through all the pairing steps and get to where it asks to choose a security mode. when i click the A button on my wired controller in the bottom left of the blue screen a command line opens up and none of my buttons on my controller work, for example after the line opens up when i press the D-pad right it types ^[[c and does this for a few other buttons

This seems to be triggered by the bluetooth pairing script not responding after you choose the security mode. The wired controller's A button is meant to send the enter key.

Can you add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?
Make sure you're fully updated (RetroPie and OS/Packages) when you try the pairing.

@kman0318 said in controller buttons open command line:

RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): retropie 4.7.1

Try to update the latest version (4.7.12) and update your OS/packages also (the installer will prompt you to do so). Then reboot and install the xpadneo driver before trying to pair again via Bluetooth.
