White noise using HomePod's as speakers via ARC
-
Hey guys,
I recently got the new Apple TV and I'm able to use my HomePod speakers as speakers for all my devices via ARC.
However when using RetroPie (RPi4, RetroPie 4.7.12), I'm getting white noise and static sounds when playing games. It's the only device that does it. It doesn't occur when the sound goes through my TV internal speakers.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
Cheers!

@scrumpydaniel Not quite the same issue but I am experiencing something somewhat similar after upgrading to a Raspberry Pi 4 and RetroPie 4.7.1
What I get is the occasional loud quick "TSH" of static only when the emulation station screen saver videos are playing. And I have them set to be muted so its just coming out of nowhere when it happens.

@scrumpydaniel The only device? Interference received/generated by that device.

@iandaemon By ‘only device’ I mean, I’ve got other consoles, streaming devices etc connected to my TV and the sound via the Apple TV ARC is all fine on those.
It’s only the RetroPie that’s giving me the white noise/static issues.
-
@scrumpydaniel Oh I thought you meant only that speaker. How is the speaker connected? Might there be a bad driver or piece of software?
-
@iandaemon The HomePod speakers are connected wirelessly to the Apple TV which in turn is plugged into the ARC port on my TV. The TV sends the sound to the Apple TV and the Apple TV sends the sound to the HomePods.
It’s only when playing games in Retropie that I get white noise. Just unsure if there’s a setting in emulationstation or the config file that will stop the white noise and static.

@scrumpydaniel Any help anyone? I’ve literally been through every audio setting within retroarch and RetroPie and nothing is improving it.

Okay I've literally tried every setting under the sun. It's not just PlayStation games, it's across every emulator/core.
It seems to be a problem with my Pi4, as when I try with my Pi3 it's absolutely fine through the HomePod speakers.
I've tried a different HDMI cable & PSU for the Pi4 but to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?

try power up the speaker via usb within the pi4 or by some audio converter from hdmi to 3,5 jack audio and have the audio setting of pi4 to hdmi and not 3.5 jack.
