Hanging up at load screen

Whenever I select a game in emulation station it goes to the load screen for whatever system the game is in and just stays there until I hook up a keyboard and hit the escape button. Then it will go into the game and work as normal. How can I get it to not hang up at the load screen. It wasn't doing it this morning.
