Hey there, so I moved from a Raspberry Pi over to a full gaming PC, with a quad core AMD processor and 8 GB of RAM. Here's a list of issues I'm having:

      • Controller always gives "✔️ USB Gamepad (121/17) not configured" when in games and games can only be exited from the keyboard
      • "Press a button to configure" barely works
      • Killer Instinct still refuses to open, the only .78 ROM next to its sequel that refuse to open
I have a video of the happenings from direct controller setup to Killer Instinct crashing here. What can I do to fix all this?

@mcjones9631 you can start with providing all the information asked here:
        https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

verbose log especially cruvial for your kinst issue, which i expect will reveal that you have the wrong .zip or .chd for 0.78.

@mcjones9631 The log says that kinst.chd is the wrong version. You should double check that you have the right version of kinst.zip and kinst.chd for lr-mame2003.

As for your gamepad, it's possible that your emulationstation es_temporaryinput.cfg file was corrupted at some point. Emulationstation uses that file to configure inputs for Retroarch and other emulators after you configure a gamepad in ES. Try deleting /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_temporaryinput.cfg, rebooting, and then remapping the gamepad in ES.

@g30ff Alright, I did that, and still the issue persists. I completely redid the config for the controller, updated everything, and its till popping up. However, I did find and get Killer Instinct's CHDs up and running so thank you for that.

@mcjones9631 You might also want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the xpad driver from RetroPie-Setup. Sometimes that can correct issues with gamepads, particularly X-input type pads.

@g30ff I reinstalled that along with every other controller driver, seems the issue is still there sadly.

@mcjones9631 Run RetroPie-Setup, Manage Packages, Manage Driver Packages, then select xpad. Select Uninstall, then Install.

@mcjones9631 At this point the only other thing I can suggest is to try doing a full update, including underlying OS packages.

@mcjones9631 said in Ubuntu PC having issues running ROMs:

This usually happens when your controller doesn't have a configuration file/profile in RetroArch. If you configured your controller in EmulationStation, a RetroArch configuration file for the controller should be created automatically, unless you turned of the auto-configuration of controllers in ES.

Is you controller working in EmulationStation, after you have completed the input configuration ? Did you disable the auto-configuration in EmulationStation, by any chance ?
