EmulationStation mod
-
@eamonmcm Sorry for being a pain but today I brought my pi to a friends house and when I tried to connect to his wifi it said that wificonnect was missing. I assure you it is there and I have made it executable using the chmod command while being in the /wifi/app directory. I have tried several times to move it over and also tried the first script I seen but a going to try the retropie nerd version now and see if he got the wificonnect working.
Thanks.
LOL I am an idiot.

@eamonmcm Alright, the retropienerd script is pretty good and it'll get you the more up to date version of this mod but it still has some problems with wificonnect. The script will make it easier to deal with though.
It doesn't fully get the wificonnect app though so you must get it from git and compile it yourself.
just cd into its dir and typemake
then cp the compiled file to ~/.emulationstation/app/wifi
you may have to create those dirs too...I know this mod is crazy to configure but I've been working on an update to make this all easy.

@jacobfk20 Hi! Good job!
Maybe, you could help me change the icons of buttons? In this thread all the details.
I tried to compile it myself, but I am a complete noob in programming.
I hope, you find my idea useful, and implement it. -
@frgn I took a look at the thread and saw you posted a copy of your converted files and dropped them into one of my ES builds and it compiled just fine. My help icons now look like buttons from a ps controller (which is fitting as I primarily use them)
What exactly is the problem? You've already converted them you should just be able to build the source and it should be smooth sailing.
-
@jacobfk20 The problem is that I can not compile "emulationstation" file. I tried to do it, but the compilation is completed with different errors.
to the same matter is complicated by the fact that I do not know English - I live in Russia.
I would be very grateful if you have collected the binary file, includes buttons on the ps1 icons, and posted on any file sharing.
please, do it - my project really needs such trifles -
@frgn I will send you a compiled version with your changed icons. It may take ~30 minutes to compile a vanilla ES with this change. I'll post a link on your original thread with the download when it finishes.
-
@jacobfk20 man, you're cool! I look forward to!
-
I've mostly been following this thread, but have a few questions.
- Will we ever be able to install it from the RetroPie-Setup Script like emulationstation-kids can be? I was hoping 4.1 would have it 😕
- Which codebase should I be using? In your initial post you link to your EmulationStation-RPiE repo, but that hasn't been updated since Sept. There's also a
GridView
branch on your EmulationStation fork which has more recent commits and aGridview-defaulttheme
branch that's even more up to date. - You upload pre-compiled versions in a few different places. Is the link in your OP still the best one to use?
- Is there a reason you don't upload the various versions that you have to the Github releases section of whichever repo you're using? Seems like a better way to keep track of pre-compiled versions than random google drive links.
Thanks for all your hard work on this. I've been watching this thread and the theming thread for a long time and I hope this can eventually become the default version of ES that retropie uses.
-
The imgur screenshot made it look like gridview was a menu option, but I can't actually find that menu option. Do I need to edit a text file or something to enable it?
I've tried every gridview binary I could find (4 of them I think), including the one with playstation controller icons. I tried both default and Material themes on each one.
What simple thing am I missing? How do I actually use the gridview feature?
-
@shaeree In the gamelist of the system you want to have gridview: hit select and go to "System UI Settings" then change the System View to Grid View. Sorry that you had trouble and hope this helps.
-
@jacobfk20 You got anything exciting in the pipeline?
-
@jacobfk20 This is what I see in UI settings:
... There's no 'System View' showing up, when I try any of the binaries. That's why I'm asking! LOL.
(It's scrolled all the way to the bottom; the only option that isn't showing is 'Screensave After'.) -
@Shaeree Is that what you get when you hit "Start" or "Select"? Maybe try the other one?
-
@mattrixk The Select menu is some other thing:
-
@Shaeree Huh, fair enough. I know it used to be one of those, but that was back at the beginning of this thread and I haven't had a chance to test any of the newer stuff.
-
@mattrixk This is pretty typical for me. Just call me "Edge Case."
-
@Shaeree You may still be running vanilla ES. The "OPTIONS" menu that's opened in your last pic should contain an extra option to adjust System view between Grid, Default, Basic, and Detailed. This option is hard coded and cannot be hidden with any kind of setting in the system or settings configs.
@lilbud Move Wifi and Ethernet menu out of ES and into its own executable-- and get rid of the white screen of death. Though I'm about to move and get a new job so I haven't had a good amount of time to get much done :(
-
@jacobfk20 moving and getting a new job: just did that so I know how annoying it is. Anyways I appreciate what you've done thus far particularly with gridview. best of luck to you with your job and move.
BTW just in case you missed the memo: WSOD has been fixed already by @fieldofcows :P
-
@herb_fargus Is the WSOD fix part of the latest official RetroPie now, or is still in testing?
