Is there any way to use two joysticks for Wonderswan?
-
(Without using Xboxdrv, obviously. I'm not a rocket scientist.)
I'm running Retropie through a double arcade joystick, and I'd like to be able to use the sticks for proper control of Crazy Climber. (I've currently got the climber's left hand mapped to the joystick, and his right hand mapped to four buttons, which works but isn't very satisfactory.)
Retroarch won't let me treat the second stick as "Port 2 Controls", all the mappings are just "---" and can't be changed. And the options in Port 1 Controls don't include the second stick. Any way around this?

Try setting
port 2 controls > mapped port
to port 1. This should map both P1 and P2 physical inputs to the same P1 virtual retropad input; do your available mappings for P2 change when you do this? -

Try setting
port 2 controls > mapped port
to port 1.Not sure what you mean by that. There's no such option that I can find under Controls (I have Show Advanced Options set to On). I tried going to Settings>Input>Port 2 Binds and changing the Device Index to Gamepad #1 and then editing those binds, but that had no discernible effect and didn't change the options under Controls>Port 2.

Settings>Input>Port 2 Binds
Main menu > quick menu > controls > port 2 controls > mapped port

This will do the opposite of what you want. This maps in-game P2 control to the physical P1 input device. Example: Donkey Kong arcade has one set of controls shared between two alternating players. Both players would use P1 gamepad. But you need P2 gamepad plugged in to press "Start" on it for two players. With "Device Index" you could map P2 control to the physical P1 gamepad, then (in the quick menu, as my other comment) map P2's start button to an unused gamepad button like R1. So now you don't need a second gamepad just to press "2P Start," it's mapped to 1P R1 instead.

@sleve_mcdichael I'm lost, I'm afraid. What does "Try setting port 2 controls > mapped port to port 1" mean? Where is that option?

@jimmyfromthebay start a game in your lr- core emulator. Press the hotkey combination to open the RetroArch menu (default: Select+X). You shlould be in Quick Menu. If you are not in Quick Menu back all the way out to Main Menu (what version is your RetroPie?) and select Quick Menu. It should be the first list item. Press
A
to choose it.From inside Quick Menu, scroll down to Controls (it's near the bottom.) Press
A
to choose it.From inside Controls, scroll down to Port 2 Controls (it's near the middle.) Press
A
to choose it.Inside Port 2 Controls scroll down to Mapped Port (it's near the top.) Press
D-Pad Left
(or equivalent) once to change it from Mapped Port: 2 to Mapped Port: 1Once this physical port 2 input is mapped to virtual port 1 input, you should be able to map the other controls on this (physical P2) joystick and it will be interpreted by the core as P1 input.
Once it works how you like it, return to Quick Menu > Controls and save it as a Game Remap File.

You need to update RetroArch, this option is only a few months old, see https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-1-9-6-released/

Ah, thanks. I'm absolutely terrified to update core features like Retroarch in case they've done something moronic that requires the manual alteration of literally thousands of CFG files, like that time they added a new video aspect ratio which renumbered all the other ones :(
