Retropie on x86 GalliumOS - Menu Flickering
-
Hello everyone. After having success with my last Chromebook / Retropie build, I came across another (slightly better model) chromebook which I decided to give a go. Its an Acer R11 which uses a Braswell processor (as opposed to the Baytrail version I did a while back). Slightly better specs but again nothing to write home about ;) Has at least a touch screen which doesnt help any for retropie, cool when I'm using it to just surf and fold it over like a tablet.
So the issue I am having is as follows: While on the menu, I noticed a slight flicker of the screen. As I went into any menu selections the flickering would get worse. Flickering seems to happen even when I switch it over to HDMI.
- Played with the VRAM settings, didn't help.
- Disabled all power management settings, screensaver etc.
- Added xset s off && xset -dpms in the xsession
- Tried using other themes like carbon, no luck
- Tried changing the resolution to 1280x720 (native its 1336x768), seemed like that made it worse.
- In the shortcut (desktop) added -profile=RetroPie as someone suggested in another post I was reading, didnt make any difference.
The good news is emulation is perfectly fine. Anything I tried worked flawless. Any ideas or thoughts? As always, thanks in advance for any assistance :D :)

Try disabling the compositor (
compton
/weston
?) or run EmulationStation as a fullscreen borderless window with:emulationstation --windowed --resolution 1336 768

@mitu - Thanks! So adjusting the transparency didn't help (set terminal and panel to solid colors). Tried in windowed mode and that flickering stopped. It seems compton is messing things up. Killed the task: pkill compton and it worked. I'll play around with it some more and let you guys know. Thanks again!!! :D

Update: Disabled compton from startup and everything works like a charm! Thank you again. :)
