ES freezing randomly on boot or restart

Power Supply used: CanaKit 3.5A USB-C
RetroPie Version Used: 4.7.20
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website 1 year ago (was 4.7.1)
USB Devices connected: wireless dongle of Logitech F710
Controller used: Logitech F710
Error messages received: none
Verbose log (if relevant): none

Hello,

Somethime when i cold boot (or restart) emulationstation will freeze when parsing subdirectories (for example we will stuck forever at SEGACD or favorites). This is the step just before 'Preloading UI'. This is really random, i will say 1/20.

i am using the standard CARBON theme. I boot from USB3 on a kingston 240G SSD.

@mbernier I think "threaded loading" (line 29 in your config) was causing some people issues and has been reverted back to default=off? You might try that & see if it fixes. (Initial loading of ES will take longer, since it's not loading simultaneously on multiple threads but just all in a row on a single one.)
