PSX not working
-
I have been trying for a week now, with no success, to get the PSX emulator working. I am using a RPi B+ I have SCPH1001.BIN in the BIOS folder, I have three games (Oddworld in .iso, Warcraft 2 in .cue and .bin, and Civilization 2 in .cue and two .bin files all bundled into a folder labeled Civ2). I do notice that both the .cue and .bin files are visible, which is something that the wiki seemed to say shouldn't happen (it says that .bin files should not be visible), so maybe that's something.
I have tried playing with the .cfg file as this site suggests: http://www.instructables.com/id/Installing-RetroPieEmulationStation-onto-Raspberry/step5/Installing-PSX-Emulation/
I have tried playing with the RetroArch .cfg as this site suggests: https://weekendengineer.wordpress.com/2014/09/16/setting-up-playstation-for-retropie/
I have tried different downloads of the BIOS file from different sources.
I have even tried placing the BIOS file in the PSX ROMs folder (like you do with the Neo Geo).
Nothing that I have tried works. I click on the .cue, or .bin, or .iso and the screen goes black (as if it is processing and trying to open the ROM), and then returns to the PSX menu. I am quickly loosing hope. Any assistance that could be given would be greatly appreciated.

@jabberwock101 I wouldn't place too much stock in guides written in 2014 :)
what version of retropie? have you updated the script and the lr-pcsx emulator?
-
Yeah, I know they are old, but there wasn't a whole lot for me to go on, so I tried the suggestions, but took them with a grain of salt.
I am using RetroPie 3.8.1, which I updated yesterday. I honestly do not recall if I updated the emulator, but I will give that a shot.
Someone suggested that there may be an issue with my BIOS file being in all caps (SCPH1001.BIN vs. SCPH1001.bin or scph1001.bin)...I don't see how that could be the issue, but at this point maybe I will try fooling with that too.
-
@jabberwock101 yep, it's case sensitive. probably your issue.
-
@dankcushions I'm placing my bet on his binary not being updated.
-
Every single tutorial, including the wiki, had the file in all caps, so I tend to think that the caps is fine. Just to be sure, I tried it as SCPH1001.BIN, scph1001.bin, scph1001.BIN, and SCPH1001.bin None of that worked. It would have been nice if that were the issue, but it's not.
-
@dankcushions mine is in all caps. No problems here for me. I know linux has case sensitive issues but psx and msx bios files work in caps for me

@jabberwock101 go into retropie settings. then go into retropie setup. Then choose update retropie setup. Then download the updated version of lr-pcsx-rearmed in there.

HOLY COW! So, when I first set up the RetroPie I did update the setup script, but not the system or the emulators. I don't know if I figured that the emulators and system packaged in with the latest image would be up to date or what, but I did not actually update this stuff. Thanks to you fine folks, I went back and updated all of the installed packages, and made sure to update the PSX from binaries...and wouldn't you know it? I now have a working PSX emu!
I don't understand why an outdated emulator would not work at all (after all, I'm sure that it did back when it was the up to date version), and I really don't know why I didn't think to update the emulator to begin with, but it works now so I'm over it. Normally if I have an issue with a program I look at the program first and the system second, but that's not what happened here. I guess having everything bundled together made me think about the system set up first and the program last.
In any event, stuff works. I'm happy, and I am one step closer to having my RetroPie working perfectly...now to fool around with Stratagus...

@jabberwock101 it was packaged when the build was broken. Occasionally happens.
@dankcushions that will be £50 :p
