wolf4sdl error when launching
-
Hi,
Using the Retropie-setup menu, I removed the wolf4sdl package, being old, and reinstalled it from source, hoping to get controller support. Now, when launching wolfestein I get the following error:
wolf3d wolf4sdl /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/wolf3d/vswap.wl6 /opt/retropie/ports/wolf4sdl/bin/wolf4sdl.sh "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/wolf3d/vswap.wl6" Parameters: Executing: SDL1_VIDEODRIVER=dispmanx SDL_DISPMANX_WIDTH=1280 SDL_DISPMANX_HEIGHT=720 /opt/retropie/ports/wolf4sdl/bin/wolf4sdl.sh "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/wolf3d/vswap.wl6" NO WOLFENSTEIN 3-D DATA FILES to be found!
I checked using md5sum as per retropie docs and got the following result, which aligns to the steam version, so files are actually fine.
~/RetroPie/roms/ports/wolf3d $ md5sum *.wl6 a41af25a2f193e7d4afbcc4301b3d1ce audiohed.wl6 2385b488b18f8721633e5b2bdf054853 audiot.wl6 aa75133df873b660d2058425ca8539b3 config.wl6 a4e73706e100dc0cadfb02d23de46481 gamemaps.wl6 b8d2a78bc7c50da7ec9ab1d94f7975e1 maphead.wl6 dec8939cff5a4ec27ae7b43e8f52ec28 vgadict.wl6 8b40b5b785f898e229bf1c2f2e3ee003 vgagraph.wl6 8e75e3ffb842ed3d08abe6ffea97b231 vgahead.wl6 b8ff4997461bafa5ef2a94c11f9de001 vswap.wl6
Any ideas what might be wrong now?
Thanks

@luckyluca please provide more details of set up as detailed in the pinned topics. Did you update the RetroPie -Setup script first?
-
Here it is:
Pi Model or other hardware: Pi400
Power Supply used: Original white power supply
RetroPie Version in use: 4.7.15
Storage: 32gb sdcard plus 1tb usb3 ssd drive for the roms folder.
Error messages received: Wolfestein crashes back to EmulationStation when launching.
Emulator: wolf4sdl portNo I didn't update anything.
I was actually planning not to touch this installation anymore, other than getting a few ports to work.
The only thing I tried the other day, was I first removed the wolf4sdl package.
Then I followed this set of instructions to install a separate branch of wolf4sdl, which failed miserably at the build stage:cd /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/ sudo apt-get install libsdl2-dev libsdl2-mixer-dev sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl depends sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl sources sudo chown -R pi:pi /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/wolf4sdl/ cd ~/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/wolf4sdl/ git remote add lazd "https://github.com/lazd/wolf4sdl.git" git fetch lazd git checkout sdl2remap git submodule init git submodule update cd ~/RetroPie-Setup/ sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl get_opts sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl get_bins sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl build sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl install sudo ./retropie_packages.sh wolf4sdl configure rm ~/.wolf4sdl/config.wl*
However doing the above fails upon build. (see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/8695/wolfenstein3d-wolf4sdl-remapping/30?_=1649086238047 ).
So I then simply opened up Retropie-Setup, cleaned the wolf4sdl entry and installed from source.
I actually tried installing both from source and from binary and in both cases I get the "NO WOLFENSTEIN 3-D DATA FILES to be found!" error. At first I thought this was due to some odd permissions with my usb3 ssd. This is not the case as it was working perfectly before in this configuration. I also tested running wolf4sdl and its data files directly from the sdcard with the same error as above. Thanks for looking and you support!

It's now resolved, thanks!
I restored a backup of the 32GB Sdcard image and updated the package to the latest version.
It magically works and the controller started working too. -
@luckyluca After building the sdl2remap branch, i got the same error. Do you know what the root-cause is for that error?
