I have 2 player joystick/buttons and I can map them both fine and both work properly in menus in Retropie. After loading a game (TMNT) the mapping is wrong. The last controller mapped (can be 1 or 2 but always the last one mapped) works fine and the joystick directions are accurate (up is up, etc). The other controller, up is left and right is down. This persists after exiting the game and now that controller doesnt even work in Retropie menus.

Side question, how do I get to the advanced settings? I can open the menu for configuring controllers etc, but no options to get to advanced things like clear all controllers. I remember when I last messed with this I could see that.

This is a common problem when the controllers are not wired similarly. Since they're identical, as far as model and naming, their configuration is shared.

So if up on P1 is producing the down on P2 input code, then it means they need to be wired the same, so up on P1 produces up also on P2. No amount of re-configuration will fix this, since the configuration will apply to both controllers - that's why the last configured controller always works, but the other one is broken.

TL;DR - make sure the controllers are wired identically and so they yield the same input code for the corresponding buttons/joystick axis.

@mitu I just found that on another post and should have searched before posting, but thank you for the response. I am good now!

@mginster my question is about mapping controls. I have player 1(working fine) and player 2 ( not mapped correctly). How do you map ultimarc joysticks and buttons for player 2? Any help or ideas would be useful. Thank you
