Amiberry 5.1 and black screen
-
@mitu i allready tried that, but the file was empty.
I fear this happens because the system freezes before it writes the log.
As mentioned i have to pull the plug and after a new power on there is no log :/ -
If you have SSH enabled, try looking at the file while Amiberry is started. You can probably also stop the emulator using
kill
/killall
, so you don't have to reboot the system. -
@mitu i never activated SSH as i have no PC at all. From the beginning i use my Android Smartphone via local network and a File Commander to feed my Pi with data. Is there anything i can use from there?
-
@sirhenrythe5th Set the log file to
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/amiberry.log
and you can access it via file shares, like any other rom folder. For the commands, you'll need SSH - I think there are some SSH apps in the app store that may be usable. -
@mitu thank you very much sir, i will try that!

The difference: instead of a black screen amiberry stucks with the runcommand window displayed and the amiga mousecursor on the top left.
I also can only switch off the Pi :/Any solution to this freez-Problem?
I have the exact same problem on my raspberry pi 4. I have a new fresh retropie 4.8 Image on my sdcard and install only Amiberry 5.2 from binary an i have only a keyboard plugged in. If i press start in the amiberry-ui or start a game direct, it freez on the runcommand Window with a mousecursor on the top left.
I try this with only a xbox 360 Controller plugged in too, but the same behavior. So i think its not a problem with the inputdevice? With the old amiberry version 3.x on my old image i have no problems like this.
-
@loxlay i did not find a complete solution.
In my case it seemed to be issues with the BT-connection of my pads.
So i use amiberry with wired pads only.
I still dont know what causes the issue but as your problems seem to have other reasons than the Inputs i will keep an eye on this thread, maybe the suggestion from other users for you will help me too. -
I have just setup Retropie 4.8 and Amiberry 5.3 on my Pistation and I am having the same freezing issue.
I have an 8bitdo pro 2 controller setup on bluetooth. When I start an Amiga game it freezes on the run command with the mouse cursor appearing in the top left.
I have renamed the amiberry and emulator config files and reinstalled amiberry with no luck.
I may try a complete reimage of retropie and install amiberry then see how that goes.
No solution yet though

@Jimi007 it seems to be a very annoying issue only concerning the 8Bit-Do-Pads when used with Amiberry since v5.x.
I can confirm Mitus idea of using other pads, no 8BitDo = no freeze/no issues.I guess we cannot do anything at this point but wait for a further update of Amiberry with this entry in the changelog:
- v5.4: fixed freeze and other random issues when launching amiberry with 8BitDO-Pads connected.
-
I have finally done a complete wipe and reinstall of retropie.
I've installed Amiberry 5.5.1 and connected the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller and can confirm the issue is still occurring.Mouse freezes in top left corner of screen and any game does not start
Not sure how to resolve.

I too can confirm I'm seeing this issue. Followed all the guidance above to uninstall/re-install and reset config files. Getting the black screen with runcommand box and mouse cursor top left, then doesn't go any further until I reboot the pi.
I'm using a pi400 with 2 8BitDo M30 bluetooth controllers which are working elsewhere in retropie and were working fine for amiberry 3.3 previously. This started right after upgrading to amiberry v5.5.1.
In the interest of the potential long delay issue, I waited 20 minutes and amiberry still failed to start unfortunately. The mouse pointer also can't be moved and no other input appears to affect the freeze status.

That's good to know - I have a M30 around and I can test with it.
-
@mitu I also waited about 10-15mins when this happened and can confirm the same issue as pixeladdict.
The emulator does not start and I need to reboot the system.
Only seems to happen with 8bitdo controllers -

That is what i allready recognized when Amiberry got updated from 3.x to 5.x: i had the same issue.
Later i learned that i only have this issue when my 8BitDo(s) are connected via Bluetooth with the Pi.
As soon as i connect another Input Device, or connect the 8BitDo8(s) per wire, everything runs fine. -
@sirhenrythe5th Just with this issue - I have updated to the new Amiberry 5.6 and the same issue is still occurring , so frustrating as not sure why this is happening.
Again only seems to be through bluetooth and 8bitdo controllers
Has anyone else tested this? -

Yes, I used my 8bitdo M30 connected via Bluetooth and couldn't reproduce the issue - Amiberry works doesn't block and works fine with it.
-
Maybe only specific models of 8BitDO are concerned.
I didn´t test amyberry for quite a while, but updated everything just yesterday evening.
I will give it a try and report if this issue still exists, at least with the 8BitDo SN30Pro. -
OK, i just tested Amiberry 5.6 yesterday.
Gosh, it got even worst!!
Now the Amiga boots and the images are loaded...but as soon as i do anything on my Gamepad, via cable or wireless, the emulator exists to the Amiberry-GUI :/
Every button and evry direction has now the effect as an exit-button.
Oh my, how annoying!
I allready reset the input-configurations -> no change.I will test again with PS3-Pads in the weekend and hope to get the games running again.
I don´t have any explanation for this behavior, but as it even gets worse from update to update i will also think about deleting amiga on the pi, to be honest...i dont play these games anyway. -
@sirhenrythe5th
I thought I'd do some more testing.
I reloaded retropie and amiberry from scratch.
This time I thought I'd test it with just the keyboard and no controllers attached
When I started a game from amiberry the mouse cursor freezing occurred.
I realised I hadn't copied over the Amiga Roms ( I am sure I did this before although maybe not correctly)
I found the Roms (correct ones) purchased from Amiga Forever and copied to the BIOS folder.
The games started with the keyboard attached.
I setup the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller through bluetooth and now all looks to be working ok.Not sure if Amiberry update resolved the issue or having the right ROMS in the right folder.
It all looks to be running now with Amiberry 5.6 and retropie 4.8 on an 8bitdo controller.
