Who uses an arcade stick?

Madcatz TE fightstick and SF vs Tekken fightstick. I mostly use the SF/Tekken stick these days. I replaced both ball tops with bat tops. I also replaced the tension springs with stronger ones but I don't remember if they were 2lb or 4lb.
They are no longer sold but I believe the first stick was around $150 and the second stick on "clearance" for $130. I may have bought them in around 2009-2012.

I also have the same Mayflash F300 stick.
I am considering purchasing the F500 Elite at some point so I can see if the Sanwa parts make much difference.

I really like the sticks that have the XY/DPAD switch so you can map it for digital and analog for those games that expect an analog device without having to remap buttons for individual games.

@YFZdude I have the Mayflash F500 and used it on RetroPie/RP3, Playstation 4 (although requires an original PS4 gamepad to be plugged in), Windows+Steam, Linux+Steam, tried it out on Android and now Linux+RetroArch. It has 3 modes: XInput, DInput and "Standard" (not sure what this is). That thing works on everything!
Nowadays I use the Mayflash F500 only for MAME and FB Neo Arcade games. But I did not mod it, so it uses the standard parts. Could be better. I read a lot about Sanwa parts being good.

I have an original model F500 with Sanwa parts I swapped in and they are an improvement over the clones Mayflash uses. For general MAME or casual fighting game, the stock controls are perfectly adequate. I picked up the F500 when I started getting back heavy into fighting games again and wanted to transition back to an arcade stick from a controller. The stock controls were fine for starters, but as I went up SFV ladder I wanted higher quality parts.

Unless you want the larger size and heft and the F500, you can easily open up the F300 and pop in Sanwa parts. The Mayflash sticks are remarkably mod friendly for their price-point. The stick I/O board has pin headers for all the parts and and an alternate 5-pin joystick header just for users who plan to swap in Sanwa parts.

Hey I like that idea! I'll give it a shot.

I have access to acetone readily at work and if I could remove those button labels I might leave it blank or try p-touch labels to see how it would look with the proper button layout / functions.

I have twin Hori RAP 4 Kai's, using Sanwa parts. I mostly play by myself, but Third Strike and MVC2 matches always get heated when friends are over.

Nope. It is definitely not working like the video made it look. I didn't do too much scrubbing because the acetone was starting to eat into the plastic a little. Mayflash put their button labels on in a way that doesn't come off easy.

My review is on their site. I’m a casual retro player, no fighting games, so I can’t speak to the quality, but I like it for the things I play. Mostly c64, Amiga, Arcade, Genesis. And I can use it on my Mac and Windows too.

I use two (PS3-) Mortal Kombat Tournament Sticks.
They look great and they are great as i prefer HAPP-Controls and being not that SANWA-type-of-guy.

I also have the NeoGeo Stick 2+, the MadCatz StreetFighterIV-Tournament-Stick, a Dreamcast ArcadeStick and the legendary HotRodSE from Hanaho for the PC, but the MK-Sticks are the only ones that work without any further drivers or modifications on my Pi. Plug & Play :D

@IanDaemon The version without the trackball is 1:1 to HanaHo´s HotRodSE.
The X-Arcade and the SlikStick (afaik no more available) were the cheaper alternatives to the HotRods.
I would have bought the X-Arcade too because of the price (HotRodSE: 700$) but the HotRod was the only Arcade-Stick on the market for quite a while and i wanted to have one AT ONCE! :D
I had to wait another 6 months for it, they were handbuilt on order and afterwards it had to be shipped to germany to reach me.

No worries. I have played around with these plastic eating chemicals before so I recognized right away that it wasn't going to do what I was hoping. The small area I tested is barely noticeable.

This thread has really got me thinking about customizing sticks though. Sanwa, HAPP, ball top, bat top, 2lb springs, 4lb springs, push button colors... I can see where my hobby money is going to be spent now. I might buy a little of several things to see what preferences develop. I'd like to figure that out before I decide I must build my own cabinet at some point.

I think I enjoy the tinkering aspect just as much as playing the games now.

@Addison Wait, what? They're asking that price now? I got mine for half that ~$250 USD (IIRC). I wouldn't have paid $500 USD.

(I just included the pic/vid for reference without reading their website for updates. Wait, It says $250 for me, maybe you were translating into another currency. I apologize.)

I can also use it for the Nintendo Switch, BUT I fear that it introduces a few frames of lag. (no proof, but not surprising with this setup...I'm probably just rusty)
