[Suggestion] Include Bluetooth 5.0 firmware with RetroPie
-
Greetings everyone. While installing the appropriate firmware for a Bluetooth 5.0 dongle is simple enough when you know where to get it from, I believe including the firmware with RetroPie would make it much more convenient to everyone who plans on using it. Thoughts?

RetroPie doesn't need to distribute firmware files - these are included with the OS used by RetroPie (the Linux distribution). Which firmware did you have to install manually ?
If your dongle doesn't have a firmware included with the OS, ask for the inclusion in the upstream distro (Debian/Raspberry PI OS/Ubuntu/etc.). Note that not all firmware files are freely re-distributable - this may affect their inclusion in the upstream Linux distro.

@mitu I got the firmware here:
https://github.com/Realtek-OpenSource/android_hardware_realtek
More specifically:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Realtek-OpenSource/android_hardware_realtek/rtk1395/bt/rtkbt/Firmware/BT/rtl8761b_fw
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Realtek-OpenSource/android_hardware_realtek/rtk1395/bt/rtkbt/Firmware/BT/rtl8761b_config
Can I ask you what exactly is a upstream distro? And which one is used by RetroPie on the Raspberry Pi 3? -

Can I ask you what exactly is a upstream distro?
Is the Linux distribution on which RetroPie is installed.
And which one is used by RetroPie on the Raspberry Pi 3?
That's Raspberry PI OS.

The firmware you want is in the
firmware-realtek
package, but only in the next Debian version (bookworm
), so it will be eventually included in Raspberry Pi OS. -
@mitu Oh okay. Thank you for your time mitu.
