ROM format

Hello,

I have found some ROMs for Atari 2600 in *.zip and *.7z formats and I placed these zipped files in home/pie/RetroPie/roms/atari2600/
Now I have realized it must be wrong because Raspberry Pi is a Linux machine, not Windows.
Should I unpack the zip files in Widows and then place the unzipped folders (?) in ...roms/atari2600/ ? Or not?

Unpacking revealed some folders with EXE files (?), some with atr/xex files and one folder wth a rom extension file.

Accepted File Extensions: .7z .a26 .bin .gz .rom .zip

Atari2600, as well as most other consoles, can use zip/7z file formats. Arcade roms have to be .zip, while PSX and sometimes N64 must be un-zipped to their uncompressed state.

That doesn't seem right, I would look for a better source. Unzipping should reveal one of the other supported file types (mine are all .a26 inside the .7z).

Hello,
Would collection from Atarimania (bin files) be reliable?
Living in Europe, I assume I need to go for PAL-marked files. The rest are probably NTSC.

@Robinson Please remove links copyrighted ROM sites. PAL/NTSC doesn't matter very much right now, but you should try to use the NTSC variant when you have the choice. NTSC games ran at 60hz speed, which is closer to what every current/modern TV supports.

If I have *.bin ROM's, do I just put each BIN file directly in home/pie/RetroPie/roms/atari2600/ or do I have to create a separate folder for each BIN?

@Robinson No, you copy the ROM files directly into the folder, and that's true for each system - you don't have to create separate folders for each ROM.
