      Pi Model: 2
      RetroPie Version Used: 3.8.1
Controller used: 2 Player Xin-Mo Arcade Buttons
      Emulator: Lr-mame2003

I went to go play Battletoads and I can not get player 2 to join/credit. I can successfully map the player 2 buttons in the tab input menu but when I go to play player 2 I can not add coins or anything.

I can successfully play two players on other games and add coins for each player.

@BrockBoyts I think I remember that one has a DIP switch for enabling multiplayer. If I am right, it's basically a setting for the type of arcade cabinet on the original circuit board. You will need to go into the MAME GUI (TAB) and use the menus to change DIP switches.

My 4-player cocktail style cabinet built as a custom "roadcase"

@BrockBoyts just checked this out. looks like by default the battle toads "common coin mech" dipswitch is set to ON. I guess the original cabinet had only one coin slot. if player 1 inserts a coin player 2 can press start, but player 2 has no coin slot.

you can change this, though. press TAB to get the mame menu, then go to dipswitches and set 'common coin mech' to OFF. you could also turn on 3 player mode whilst you're at it. return to the main menu and then 'reset game'. all insert coin buttons should now work, and it should also save this setting for every time you load :)
