How to comvert mame4all to lr-mame2000

Hello all, I'm looking for what the correct es_systems.cfg line is for lr-mame2000

I had an older Pi setup where I had used mame4all with the MAME 0.37b5 ROM. On my new debian 12, 32-bit linux install mame4all is not available for source compile. I see the same rom set is can be used with lr-mame2000. I was able to compile/install lr-mame2000.

I need to know how to make the correct runcommand line:
<command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 SYS mame-mame4all %ROM%</command>

I see down in /opt/retropie/config I have a mame-mame4all and mame-libretro dir where was has a emulators.cfg, in there I see entries for lr-mame2000.

What string do you use to differentiate lr-mame2000, lr-mame2003, etc. with runcommand? I want to experiment with setting up different folders specifically for different lr-mame* cores. What string after the SYS can be used to differentiate different mame cores?

@jamesnj when you launch a game and the grey box comes up says "now loading ... press a button to configure", press a button (whatever maps to 0 or 1) on your gamepad, or any key on an attached keyboard, and set the "default emulator for mame-libretro" to lr-mame2000.

Or, you can manually set default="lr-mame2000" in the file /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/emulators.cfg.

Thanks, I think that's what I did to get my existing roms to work.

I suppose what I am after is how it is possible to change the runcommand line to use a specific core for a given directory. I have my old mame4all roms in a dir called lr-mame2000. I'd like to create a separate dir called lr-mame2003 and play with that emulator separately. I don't want to config an emulator for each game ... I'd like to config a dedicated emulator on a per-directory basis.

Is there some mapping between the entries in emulators.cfg and the runcommand line that can be used to specify exactly which emulator or core is desired?

Does that make sense?

You can do that directly from the runcommand launch menu - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#runcommand-launch-menu.

I think this is what you are looking for: add a new system in ES.
