What is the current status of GC/Wii on the Pi 5?
-
I've been doing quite a bit of testing with various configurations of Gamecube and Wii on the Pi 5 and I just want to make sure I'm understanding the current status of these consoles and I'm not missing anything.
First of all, I have the most recent updates for the standalone version of Dolphin and lr-Dolphin.
From what I have seen, Gamecube is hit and miss with the standalone Dolphin core, leaning towards more hits than misses.
Wii on the other hand, also hit and miss, but seems to be leaning more towards misses.
From what I can tell the Vulkan driver is still not supported in either the standalone or the libretro version of Dolphin. I get an error selecting Vulkan in the standalone version.
Is there a way on the standalone Dolphin to map different controllers and have them automatically be detected? Or do I need to manually choose an re-configure my different controllers every time I connect one?
Do we think there will be any improvements with Gamecube or Wii in the future or are we at the point of "what you see is what you're gonna get" and we just need to realize that the Pi 5 board is not going to be powerful enough to fully run these systems?
Just curious if I should keep going down this path with GC/Wii or shelve it until a Pi 6 board comes along.

In the current stage of development, you have to manually configure the controller and enable the Vulkan driver, which makes a noticeable difference. The RPi5 can play a lot of GameCube games, but if you want a flawless experience, then it is not the correct hardware
To enable the Vulkan driver you have to add the following changes (green lines): https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/3785/commits/1b98fb55250bb02ac55f47288d1fb84990a93bc5

@sugarfree Ok that's great to know about the Vulkan driver. I do have it installed and working on lr-flycast-dev but was never able to get it running on the standalone version of Dolphin. It keeps throwing me an error.
So I'll give these scriptmodule changes a try right now.
Thank you!
