Pi boots to a blinking cursor when booting
-
On a clean installation of Raspberry Pi OS a month ago everything was working OK but today after installing Raspberry Pi OS and then running the setup script the Pi boots to a blinking cursor after showing the joystick splash screen.

OK so for anybody else seeing this I'll tell you how I got it working an also why it was an issue in the first place. So, when I normally install Retropie I do this on top of a clean install of Raspberry Pi OS and to save time with setting up other things I normally don't set it to boot to Emulation Station initially so it boots to the desktop so I can then get on with setting up other things such as Sheepshaver etc... The latest installer breaks this and so I have fixed the issue by setting it to boot to Emulation Station and then I get to the desktop by hitting F4 and then typing in "labwc" into the terinal to get to the desktop. It's only a minor hinderance and I don't mind doing this but you could say that this is a genuine bug which needs fixing as this was not an issue at the end of 2024 but thought should mention the workaround which I discovered last night.

Nothing has been changed to the install/setup part in RetroPie recently and there's no 'bug' here - auto-starting EmulationStation on boot has always been a manual step when doing a manual install.
