Mame4 All Menu Config Button Reset needed

Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can help me. I'm sure this is something simple to fix, but unfortunately I haven't got a clue.
I wanted to change the "TAB" key (which is the trigger for the config menu), so I could access it from my Joystick and accidentally made it the same button as "ESC"... I know...Shameful!
Now, when I try to reconfigure the keys, it exits out of the emulator.
I have checked the config file
/opt/retropie/configs/mame-mame4all/mame.cfg
but not finding anything in there for menu.
Can anyone please advise.Many Thanks

Try removing
/opt/retropie/configs/mame-mame4all/cfg/default.cfg -

@Floob this solution worked perfect! It created a new .cfg file once I deleted. Many thanks for the solution!

I have a problem where I deleted it but it wont recreate the file? any ideas or help with that.. I have chmod the cfg directory to 777
mame4all works fine
lr-mame4all wont work at all
