      Hey guys, I have a Retropie (Raspberry 4) and I have a strange issue with my saves on Zelda SNES.

      First and foremost, the main saves do not stick around. They delete themselves. Because of this, I've relied on "Save States" to keep my game saved.

      However, there is a problem with the save states. I will use the Save states as I play, and of course I'll save right before I quit the game. Unfortunately, I've found that when I log back in later, the last 30 minutes or so of my progress is gone. It's very disheartening to have to constantly redo the last dungeon I just beat every time I log into it.

      Any tips or help would be appreciated, thank you!

          @retropieuser555 I couldn't find the exact menu options you mentioned, but I did find an option called "Save Metadata" and I had it set to "On Exit". I changed it to "Always", so we'll see if that helps keep my saves around.

            @RobidyBobidy The option you changed doesn't apply to the emulator(s), it's just for the front-end (EmulationStation). The option controls when the metadata associated with a game (no. of launches, last play time, artwork download, etc.) is saved and doesn't have any effect on the save states/files used by the emulator.

              @mitu Oh. I see....

              In that case, how do I access this particular "retropie-setup" menu? I am on the screen where I browse the games, and I press "select" and see a variety of option menus, but none of them are called "configuration/tools"....

                  alt text

                  So, I looked up the instructions, but they didn't make any sense. Then I looked up a video, and things made even less sense. I have NO clue why my system is so different than everyone else's apparently??? Every video I find, they have a completely different UI than my retropie 4.

                  I have linked some photos of what my retropie looks like and what my main screen looks like. I have searched through ALL of those options, and there is nothing offering me the ability to update anything =( I'm sorry, but I still need help with this very confusing issue.

                    @RobidyBobidy so in that image, you're on colecovision with the main menu open.

                    From that position, close the main menu, press left or right a few times and circle through the console names, SNES, mega drive etc etc until you come to RetroPie

                    Retropie-setup is inside there

                      Oi. Hiding in plain sight. How embarrassing.

                      I updated it! At the end, there were about 8 or so notifications that specific things couldn't update. If my saves still delete themselves, I'll be back! Thanks for the help thus far.
