N64 Emulator skipping
-
I have tried loading Goldeneye 007 on the N64 but it is really jumpy; sound stutters and gameplay is affected. I've read suggestions to overlock the pi to optimise the play but I don't have any facilities to cool my pi so don't really want to do that.
I am using a rp3

sound may well skip on some n64 games, but without more information eg emulator used, I cannot advise.

Hi thanks Buzz - I'm using whatever emulator comes packaged with the retropie. I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to this stuff. I've downloaded a few roms and with whatever emulator comes pre-installed has some lag problems.

Please read the link again - I don't even know which version of RetroPie you are using. See https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/runcommand as to finding out which emulator.
also see https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Nintendo-64
Also what power supply are you using ? (What is the output eg 5v 2amps etc)

Hi, i have the exact same problem with my pi3 and RetroPie 4.0.2 (downloaded the SD image). It uses a 2.5A power supply. There are NO usb devices connected and i am using a PS3 controller with bluetooth on the rpi3 builtin bluetooth controller. The emulator used is the default one in RetroPie 4.0.2 for N64 (mupen64plus-GlideN64). I am not using any shaders eithers.

Hi, this is an old issue, but I just configured mine RetroPie few days ago.
I don't want overclock my device, this can means a risk for me. So, I was playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater, and I think the same issue was happening.
The solution for me was reduce the video quality (also the video clock) and skip the sound of music while playing (the music I needed to change on Game configuration trying to skip the Audio system calls). As software developer I know some error happens on the game and emulator prints a lot's of messages behind the game. I think if I know the shell commend to make the N64 Retro Pie Emulator skip the log messages the game can run even better.
If anyone knows a command like this please tell me.Thank you
