Unable to boot ! Orange led ON but no signal
-
Hello !
I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B to install RetroPie on.
I tried to install it, downloaded RetroPie for 2/3, unzipped it, formatted my card (Samsung 32 GB EVO) with SD formatter, installed the image with Win32 image thing, successful. Then I plugged my card on the slot, a keyboard and a controller, then the HDMI cable to my screen (tried on TV too), plugged then my phone charger.
I tried to do like your tutorial and video did.
What happened was a orange led and nothing more.
Did i do something wrong ? Where is the problem and how to fix it ?
Thank you very much !

I tried with another SD card* and it didn't work too.
And ma phone charger is a HTC charger. I didn't try with other phones chargers.

@Shisma the Pi3 needs a bit more power than the 2. Try getting a Pi3 certified charger and use that instead.

@markyh444 Thanks for your answer !
I managed to boot it with another software (Recalbox) and it works perfectly with the same materials, so I don't think it is because my Raspberry is underpowered. However, thinking it is the installation more than the materials that didn't went well I retried installing properly RetroPie and it still doesn't boot. I really don't know what is wrong.

are you sure you unzipped? or at least, are you sure you used the unzipped image (the .img one not the .img.gz). that seems to be the common mistake.

Thanks for your answer !
Yes it was unzipped, I used the .IMG file.

It still could be the power supply - even if you managed to boot something else. Either that is the image is incomplete or was not written correctly. Should rule out the PSU first (what are the output specs ? how many amps ?)
-
Actually you are probably right, looks like the PSU I'm using has only 5 V == 1.5 AMP. So I guess I will have to find a 2.5 AMP one. I'll check at home if I can find better otherwise I'll buy the official one.

I'll try it and tell you what !
Thank you very much for your assistance !
