I'm having trouble getting my atari 5200 emulator to show in emulation station. I have some atari roms and the 5 bios files. The folders for atari 5200 were not created on the usb drive so I created it as 'atari5200' and placed all of my roms in there unzipped. Most of the roms are .bin with some .a52 in there. I placed the bios files in the bios directory on the usb, plugged it in, verified all the files were copied to my pi3. Still no emulator showing up. Any idea how I can correct this?

@JoseyWales you need to install the emulator first as explained in the documentation:

        https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/First-Installation#installing-additional-emulators--ports

If you read the documentation it will answer 99% of your questions: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/

Thanks herb, I did read that part but failed to see where it said anything about atari5200 not being installed. I guess I assumed it was since both atari 2600 and 7800 were, and it wasn't mentioned in https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Atari-800-and-5200
