Xbox 360 controller recognized as Dual Shock on Pcsx

The game Ape Escape doesn't recognize my Xbox 360 controller through xpad driver as a Dual Shock. I get an in-game message about that, and I'm not able to control the game character.
How can I make it recognized as a Dual Shock controller? If I remember right, the Dual Shock had a hardware button switching between analogue and digital directionals. Is it possible to have a button combination functioning as that button?
