PS1 games that have bugs in retropie
-
I've been playing Twisted Metal 4 quite a bit, so it definitely works.
-
Here's what I've tried on my Raspberry Pi 3:
- Driver on RetroPie 3.7 and it seamed to work okay except I never finished the first mission & I just free roamed for awhile.
- Gran Turismo 2 (Arcade Mode) v1.1 plays pretty well with some very small graphics flaws that really didn't bother me when playing.
- Spyro - Year Of The Dragon ran okay with some more graphics flaws.
- Metal Gear Solid played well but I only played it for about 15 minutes.
- Tekken 2...okay so I've tried 2 different ROMs from 2 different sites and they both act like I'm playing the arcade version with "Insert Coin" only I can't figure out how to bind a key to that so I can play it! It runs fine other than that "small detail".
- Tekken 3 ran surprisingly well for me and I played it for quite a lot without much trouble. I think a time or two it froze on me when using RetroPie 4.0rc.
- I can't get any Japanese PSX games to work but that could be a BIOS issue or something I'm not doing correctly.
- Loaded & Reloaded will run and everything looks good except non of my buttons on my controller do anything so I can't start a game.
- Evil Dead: Hail to the King will start and show the intro but once you get in the game it has no sound and the screen looks off. The Dreamcast version of this game runs very well.
-
Hi All! Happy New year!
Anyone figure this out? I'm having issues with the game: Driver. Like lostless says above, it crashes when trying to replay a mission. I've tried different versions of the game with no luck. Please advise. Thanks

RetroPie 4.1 update to latest lr-PCSX-ReARMed 1.3.6 r22,
play "Zanac x Zanac", after choose Zanac Neo, at memory card check screen, it will freeze there.
If you use old version, or RecalBox's version ( 1.3.4 r22 ), it will pass the memory card check and start game.
Maybe the new version has some bug.
I have the working old version binary file but I don't know if I can put it for test, it still show 1.3.6 r22, but the file size is different.
Tekken 3 lag in new version but smooth in old version.for anyone want to test old version
Here is the download link
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12848268/lr-pcsx-oldversion.zip
( if it is not permit, I will delete it. )
Here is how to use turtorial :- under /opt/retropie/libretrocores/
make a folder called "lr-pcsx-oldversion"
then put "libretro.so" inside /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-pcsx-oldversion - put emulators.cfg inside /opt/retropie/configs/psx to replace the old one. or edit emulators.cfg and add a text line :
lr-pcsx-oldversion = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-pcsx-oldversion/libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/psx/retroarch.cfg %ROM%"
then during lanuch command you can choose "old version", and you can still keep the "original new version".
- under /opt/retropie/libretrocores/

@dewen Tekken 2/3 slowdown has been fixed in newer version.
-
Star Wars Jedi Power Battles crashes regularly. It does this on PC RetroArch as well, so it's not a Pi-specific problem.
-
Whilst I endevour to acquire the best ISO images for PCSX rearmed. I soon found out that they're not guaranteed to work neither. I should point out that the following issues were first encountered using a Pi2 with the current Retropie build, but I suspect that using a Pi3 will not make a huge difference.
Technomage: Return of Eternity (E) - Simply does not boot up.
Tomba! 2 (U) - The 1st level's music does not loop and instead it goes on to play another track which stutters incessantly. I tried at 3 different images of this game, and all 3 produced this same issue.
Dragon Valor (U) - The intro video stutters and pressing start reveals a splash screen in which that stutters too. As this is a 2-Disc game, expect this issue to reoccur upon booting the 2nd disc.
Expendable (U) - The FMV plays well enough but the main game's graphics (particularly the backgrounds) are broken beyond beleif to the extent that you can't even make out where your going! I've not tried the PAL version known as "Millennium Soldier Expendable" as yet so I can't verify if the same issue occurs on that version.
Jumping Flash 2 (U) - I do recall frame rate issues and stuttering music whilst running this on a Pi2 a few months ago. Looking back, I could've had a bad ISO image. But has anyone ran this on a Pi3 successfully?
-
rp3 4.1 - So far have Metal Gear Solid and Jumping Flash 2 won't play at all.
Jumping Flash 2 loads, can enter main menu, but when you try to hit on level one you get the endless black screen.
Metal Gear Solid does the same from the start. Won't even load to main menu.
Have tried converting to pbp (due to multiple discs on mgs1), using the bins, downloading a good 5-10 different roms for each one, even went as far as ripping them from the original ps1 cd's I have. NOTHING worked. Guessing it's some bug or patch after seeing people on here successfully load it.
Edit: Forgot about
Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit. Got like 5 fps and was just super unplayable. Could have been a bad ROM, didn't really try too hard to find another.
Crash Team Racing was another that would load the loading screens in the beginning but wouldn't even start the main screen.
Ape Escape was having an analog issue in the p1 slot. Could have just been my controller.

@yosh579 Metal Gear Solid and Crash Team Racing run for me, so not sure on your problem.
My PS1 bugs:
Metal Gear Solid: A particular video effect in some cutscene goes weird, but otherwise the game seems to run perfectly (I've reached the end of the first disc)
Crash Team Racing: Runs fine apart from my Pi can't quite keep up and it jitters a bit occasionally. Occasionally it fully freezes during a race and i have to restart the Pi
Worms World Party: The terrain generation screen crashes the game. Otherwise it runs perfectly
Crash Bandicoot Warped: The game runs ok but i get some sort of controller lag. For example, the tornado spin power up is meant to happen when you mash square, but it doesn't often fire. Could be due to Bluetooth controllers perhaps
I've had no issues with these games:
Final Fantasy IX
Sheep Dog 'n' Wolf
Bugs Bunny Lost in Time
X2
Cool Boarders 3 -
Final Fantasy 8 has a minor graphical glitch when entering battle. It does not affect the gameplay in any way.
-
Chiisana Kyojin Microman freezes on a loading screen after selecting your characters. The rom works fine when tested on a PC.
1Xtreme runs really slow when a lot of other racers are on the screen.
-
Retropie 4.2.7
Raspberry Pi 3For me, I'm having trouble with Suikoden II. There are instances in the game where it will exit back to the PSX main menu unexpectedly. And, when it does, it will only load the save file that you last saved before exiting properly (i.e. start+select). I tried other rom files of this game but it's all the same.
Other than that, the game runs smooth.
Edit: Dynasty Warriors - extremely slow gameplay.
-
I literally just updated my Pi 3 and I've now got a bug with Syndicate Wars. The map used to work fine.. now it's just a black box. It's still clearly working, you can hear the 'blip' radar sound as you move about the map etc.. but the mini-map just doesn't work. The frustrating thing is that before I updated it did work.. Very odd.
Edit: Fix- Enabling advanced resolution is what is bugging the map. Keep it turned off and it works.

Now that this topic is bumbed up and I'm playing a lot of PS1 games, here's some bugs that I have encountered:
- In Cold Blood = all of the characters move at snail's pace
- Dino Crisis 2 = characters are transparent in scripted scenes
- GT2 = Various graphical glitches when having fade out transition (Disabling interlacing from config helped a bit)
- Driver 2 = Menu is broken graphically, but can be used
- Driver = After failing a mission and selecting Try Again, screen goes black and nothing happens.
- Colin McRay Rally 2.0 = Minor graphical glitches on replays
and transitions<-- Fixed, same thing as with GT2 - Fear Effect = Somewhat jittering gameplay, propably due those unique FMV backround graphics. Or then it is supposed to be like that.
- Medievil = Unable to select between New Game and Load Game on the startup screen and the icons of those are broken.
Die Hard Trilogy 2 = Slow menu, music plays at half speed, sluggish gameplay and sound issues. (edit: putting Sound Interpolation to Simple helps a bit)<-- Stopped playing this game, as I realized what a piece of crap it is. It was fun when I was a kid thou.- Demolition Racer = Screen flashes heavily, when you pause the game.
Update:
- C-12: Final Resistance = Same sort of issue as in Die Hard Trilogy 2, sound issues at the menu.
- Kula World/Roll Away = Taking a pill in the game results broken graphical effects.
-
I've gathering up a list of encounters as you can see, but have you tried those games as well, do you encounter same sort of issues ? I'm really keen to play MediEvil especially, but I can't load up the saved game due that issue I mentioned.
-
MYST: System hangs and an annoying sound doesnt stop when climbing up the tower in the house at the beginning .
You would get important coordinates there so the Game is unplayable. -
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has some graphical glitches when using enhanced graphics (double resolution and speed hack), it is purely visual though as far as I can tell.
-
Yea there's quite a lot of texture edge glitches, that becomes visible on double resolution. We just gotta wait, until those new features of PCSX-ReArmed comes over to RetroArch/RetroPie. One of those is texture correction and polygon position correction.
-
@dd-indeed Ohh boy that's exciting! I will be patiently waiting for that day.

Driver and Hot Wheels Turbo Racing are only games which doesn't work well on RPi2:
Driver. Same problem like others have, can't try again first mission, game crashes and throws me into Retropie menu.
Hot Wheels. Screen will be black after intro video. It's not (kinda) freezes because FPS stays at 60 (and frames count gets bigger while black screen). Tried couple different ROMs but the problem still exists.
