See title. It would result in missing files not being loaded because it doesn't expect specific files that are already there for MAMEdev.org own MAME Emulator as seen here:
      files that exist
FYI: the screenshot above is for the Galaga zip file that matches with MAME64 as is in RomCenter.
Anyone know why it doesn't load the files on RetroPie as it did on my Android phone, my Surface Tablet, etc?

because mame4all is not mame64. mame4all is essentially mame as it was in 2000, and uses a completely different romset. use the correct romset, as per the wiki.

Well, the Mame4all extracts the files to such similar zip via clrmamepro:

          missing files
and you can see, its missing some files that clearly exist in MAME64 version like 2n.bin is same as prom-4.2n but different extension hence MAME4all won't find it

@supersmilers different versions of mame have different romsets even if the files are the same. its all explained on the wiki page you keep ignoring.

@herb_fargus Oh. I guess. Well, I guess I have to find one with common romset as MAME64.
              Gotta keep looking with RomCenter
Oh I found it: AdvancedMAME 1.2

                FYI:
                this is what I found:
                advmame

                Looks like I'm on track

i don't understand what the problem is. clrmamepro should rename all these files for you, if they are the correct checksum. it's all in the wiki.

@dankcushions Oh. look here... I found out that Advmame datfile doesn't have filesize for the samples... So I'm going to manually edit the datfile to get RomCenter to detect it.

samples aren't placed in the zip in my experience. certainly not mandatory to get it to run.

@dankcushions well it is for donkey kong and others because some rely on effects for timing.

no, samples are not mandatory to load donkey kong.

Smaples are only for certain sound effects in mame4all. It'll run fine without it.
Why not just download the correct romset for the correct mame? Shows in the wiki that you have been pointed to what version works with what romset.
Here is the MAME wiki again

You might need Namco ROM 5.1 and or 5.4. Download 'm from the known places. My Pi version of Advance Mame needs 'm to play certain Namco games, but the Mame4all version doesn't...

Bear in mind, like others said, that there are quite al lot of Mame versions and each needs it own ROM set to plague us retro-gamers.

                                Succes. :-)
