Looking for game suggestions

  • @bfenty: I'm a big fan of beat 'em ups. Alien vs Predator, Armored Warriors and The Punisher (all for Final Burn Alpha) are some of my favourites. There is also the Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle series on MegaDrive/Genesis.

When it comes to platformers, I don't think anything can beat Alien Soldier on MegaDrive/Genesis.

  • @bfenty
NES is my favourite system. Here are my suggestions:

    • Mega Man 1-6
    • Castlevania 1 and 3 (the 2nd is a kind of RPG and I didn't play too much)
    • Contra (don't forget to use the Konami Code!)
    • Felix The Cat
    • TMNT2
    • Little Nemo (pretty hard game)
    • G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
    • Ninja Gaiden 1-3 (f@#$%ing hard)
    • Snow Bros
    • Kirby's Adventure
    • Metal Storm
    • Battletoads (the toughest game of this list, but it's really fun to play)
    • Micro Machines
    • Baloon Fight

These are what I remember now...

Don't forget to play with RetroAchievements!! It adds more fun to the playing! ;-)

@bfenty I am particularly interested in coin-op arcade games, so stuff like Joust, PacMan, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug--it should be easy to find lists of the top arcade games of the 80s.

For Nintendo, you have to play Super Mario Bros, SMB2, 3, and of course, the Zelda series.

I've played snes Zelda. Is nes zelda good as well?

nes zelda was one of the first games i spent a lot of time with on my pi. it rules! it's really hard at points but it's got this sense of exploration and mystery that even the later zelda's miss. i had to draw out a world map on a notepad to work out where to go/where i'd been :)

  • Here we go for a quick list:

    On Nes:

    • Duck Tales
    • Super Mario The lost levels (one of the hardest plateforme games I haved ever played..)

    On Game Boy color:

    • Zelda a link awakening (one of the bests zelda of all time IMHO)
    • Zelda Oracle of Age/Season
    • Wario Land serie

    On Game boy advance:

    • All Castlevania games on this support are good
    • Golden Sun serie
    • Mario and Luigi
    • All metroids

    On Snes:

    • Donkey Kong country 1,2,3
    • Yoshi's Island
    • Super Mario World
    • FF VI
    • Terranigma
    • Chrono trigger
    • Seiken Densetsu 3
    • Tales of Phantasia
    • Super Metroid

    • All Sonic games
    • Aladin
    • Kid Cameleon

  • And the list is not over:

    On TuboGrafx 16/PC Engine:

    • The Soldier serie (especially Soldier Blade: one of the best shmups of all time IMHO)
    • Bonk Serie

And there are more that I can't think of right now...

Note: sorry for the tow post but with only one it was considered as a spam... :-(

  • @Alucard I would also add The Lion King to your MegaDrive list.

    • Cheetahmen II

Some people call it broken. I prefer to think of it as prohibitively winnable.

  • Man, the greats are:

    Pc Engine: Parasol star
Mame: Night slashers (with advmame); Dungeon and dragons, Metal slug, Twinkle star sprites, Puzzle boubble....
SNES: Mario 3 (BUT try the Game boy advance Mario version, its a remake, same Mario 3 with better graphics), Super Bomberman, Donkey kong.
    PSP: Flying hamster
    PSX: R-Type delta, Diablo I, Rayman 1
    N64: Mario Kart
