I hope this is the right place (General Discussion) for an off topic post. I realize this had nothing to do with RetroPie at all, but this community has been really helpful with Pi stuff so I figured I'd ask.

I recently saw that someone took an old SkyFi boombox and reworked it to accept a line in. When they did it they fried the power circuit so it would turn on.

I have one of those old boomboxes and the actual satellite receiver (deactivated but it works) and I think it'd be really cool to be able to control the boombox with a Pi. The satellite receiver told the boombox when to turn on and off, sent the audio to the boombox and could also control the volume.

I'm not sure how "doable" something like this would be, but how would you go about figuring out how the satellite receiver is communicating commands to the boombox?

I see that someone worked on some of the pinouts but I'm thinking I'll need some way to monitor pins for what's happening when it comes on, etc.

[Edit: I've tried twice to post this to General discussion and it keeps getting sent to help and support. I tried deleting the first post. If this should be removed, please do so. If not, please move it to the appropriate forum if it should be moved.]
