Daphne - Thayer's Quest
-
@vikingrock Yes, you need to setup a commands file described here and put in the
-bank
parameters in that file. Don't just use the example text. You really need to decide what parameters you want to add for that ROM. for purposes of this discussion, we are talking about a text file that contains-bank X YYYYYYYY
where X=the DIP switch bank, and YYYYYYYY is the binary values of each switch. You can follow my reference link above for the switch values for TQ. -
I have Daphne working with all games, including Dragons Lair and Space Ace, in Pc Keyboard there are all Daphne keys preconfigured, and I have tried to play Thayer's Quest with Pc keyboard to find a way to discover the especific imput controls to this game, but including on keyboard, there's no command to put coins in Thayer's Quest.
-
@vikingrock Yeah, I understand. Are you issuing any commands in the file described above? A lot of folks don't realize that they copied a commands file file (I guess in this case it would be
tq.commands
) from another ROM setup. For example, you don't want to use a commands string from Dragon's Lair on Thayer's quest because the DIP switches are totally different.Do you have a
.commands
file for tq? If you do, you might have it set to FREE PLAY so no coin input will work.I wish I could do more, but I don't own tq to test it.
-
Thanx again my friend... I´m surrender... I dont have a command file for tq.
Daphne emulator is a very complicated to configure on retropie, because he dont have a system menu.
-
@vikingrock Fortunately there isn't much to configure besides getting the files themselves in the right folders which it sounds like you did.
You are aware that the actual arcade game uses a strange membrane keyboard to play. . . And I think I may have found the answer.
According to the daphne emu web page it has the keys setup for thayer's quest as follows:
Thayer's Quest is different from other arcade games in that it used a keyboard instead of a usual joystick and buttons.
Thayer's Quest keys cannot be changed as of the time of this writing.
The keys are as follows:
F1 Choice #1 (triangle) / Clear
F2 Choice #2 (circle)
F3 Choice #3 (square) / Enter (NOTE : the regular Enter key on the keyboard does nothing)
F4 Choice #4 (pentagon) / Space (NOTE : the regular spacebar on the keyboard does nothing)
F5 Insert Coin
F6 Insert Coin
1 Yes
2 Items
3 Drop Item
4 Give Score
5 Replay
6 Combine Action
7 Save Game (NOTE : saving games is not supported at the time of this writing)
8 Update
9 Hint
0 No
The rest of the keyboard is the same as it is on a Thayer's Quest keyboard, which is shown below:
http://www.daphne-emu.com/graphics/tq_keyboard.jpgHere's another one that looks nicer:
-
I have tried with keyboard, the f5 key dont put coins in game, maybe a bug in retropie port of daphne emulator.
Thanx and thanx my friend you are kind person...
Best regards,

Any ideas?
-
Hello friend, I have downloaded the Cliffhanger game in Arcade Punks 64gb nachos image.
Any doubt, contact me.

Thanks for the heads up on cliffhanger, do you happen to know the file size of the cliffhanger video files/folder? I don't really want to download a 64gb img just for a few files, will try and google CH if I know the file sizes
Thanks for you help friend

Hmmmmmm interesting, are you using the "restored" version then?
-
Yes. The restored version works fine on retropie.
-
Thanks for the help, I now have 2 versions of cliffhanger (original & restored) I must say that the restored is so much better in video quality than the original, the restored version I found contained 3 versions of the video files
640x480_30i
640x480_24p
640x480_24p_letterboxThank you once again my friend

Hello again, now I,m lookng for Road Blaster and Badlands working, If with you how can I fiend, please tell me.
Best regards,
Dante -
I've tried before a few months ago, I think Road Blasters gets some sort of fault in Daphne and doesn't work. Check the compatibility lists to be sure but I get the following:
Framefile parse succeeded. Video/Audio directory is: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/daphne/roadblaster.daphne/./ YUV overlay is done in software (ie unaccelerated). Booting ROM ... MC6850: Master Reset! MC6850: clock set to x32 MC6850: 8 Bits+1 Stop Bits MC6850: /RTS=low, Transmitting Interrupt Disabled MC6850: Recieve Interrupt Enabled Error! write to main rom at a80f Error! write to main rom at f8ec Shutting down sound system...
