      So, I have a Pi B+, Retropie 3.7 w/ Kodi... Here's what I'd like to set up:

      4 Xbox controllers
      Wireless Keyboard
      WiFi Dongle
At least one thumb drive for movies/photos to use w Kodi

I don't always need 4 controllers, but I'd like to have the option of using them with my friends in certain games, particularly SNES and MAME games.

I bought an Amazon essentials 4 port USB 3.0 hub, which is apparently a no-go due to the 3.0. We tried it this weekend with only 3 controllers working. Will everything run smoothly on a verified 7 port hub? I don't mind a bit of config tweaking or whatnot... I just want the damn thing to work properly.

Thanks in advance for any input.

why would USB 3.0 not work? i thought it was all backwards compatible.

the key is getting a powered hub. did you see a coloured square in the corner with all those devices plugged in? i use this one with 4 controllers fine:

          re: USB 3.0 hubs - http://elinux.org/RPi_Noob_Guide_to_the_Pi_image#USB_1_.26_2_.26_now_3

looks like it should be fine except for USB 1.1 devices, so as long as your hub is powered and your devices aren't USB 1.1, it's ok.

@dankcushions How do you have the controllers attached? All to the hub? and on which port? I think that may be my biggest issue... Stuff attached to the wrong port.

i have 4 controllers attached to all 4 ports my powered hub but i occasionally plug controllers into the pi itself (i have 1 spare USB on that), and it's fine. all the ports are the same AFAIK.
