Rpi2 with 4.1 image, updated all scripts/packages. Overclocked to 1100mhz, same OC that was on it with retropie 2.6 with the same sdcard and power supply. All roms are the same, everything else installed is the same. Its using the 4.1 image clean installed. Having the same issue on rpi3. Doing anything in emulation often results in freezing where I have to cut the power and restart. The screen starts to fade out then stops for example right now very faint, I can see super Nintendo. looks the same as a plasma tv with something burned into the screen.

Rpi2 psu is 2A 5V and rpi3 ran originally with the charger that came in the kit, 5.25V 2.4A and also tried a spare 5.1V 2.5A. Samsung class 10 32gb sdcard. Everything results the same, even does it when trying to go to raspi-config or retropie-setup. I played a few minutes on a couple games but not much else.

Any advice to try will be most helpful as currently it is unusable and not sure what to try. Thanks.

@grimmxedious remove the overclocking and see if it persists. If it doesn't then its due to your overclocking and/or sd and potentially power supply and may need better cooling

removed the overclock and it still does it. As far as cooling, headsinks and 80mm fan. tried putting the image on another sd card also and still does it.

Is there a place to get the older images, i see all the 3.6 and later on the other site, but 4.0.2 always redirects me to the 4.1 download and would like to try an older image.

@grimmxedious sounds like hardware not software. Bad PSU or cable. Bad card or similar.

We remove older images, to not be as much as a burden on github, but it's unlikely to be software. Otherwise thousands of people would have the problem.

Same rpi2 hardware that has ran for about 1 year that has been updated from 2.6 to 4.1, put 2.6 back on it and ran fine, also a new rpi3 on 4.1, both having the same issue with multiple different sd cards and power supplies. It might be something that didnt conflict before that does now. Ill go through my steps to see if there might be any insight into what is causing it

                win32diskimage 4.1 on 32gb sdcard
                set up all location information
                enabled ssh
                update all packages
                install lxde
                install vsftpd
                install kodi
install quake 3 and other ports
                copy roms

that is the config i ran before, it happens when switching from the emulation menu to any other emulator or pressing f4. Once in a game or command line/gui it runs fine.

I would like all the features i have or something similar if possibly if it happens to be something i am running. Thanks.

I'm not using retropie (i use my own custom distro), but i had a similar issue with "tvservice", which is a program called to switch resolution. I think it is called by retropie's scripts too. Since then, i have to stay at 1080p since i removed it. By the way, did you try updating raspberry binaries like the firmware ?

i set it up the same minus lxde and tested, didn't seem to have a problem then I added lxde and shortly after started having problems. I backed the sdcard up before installing lxde and used that and it began working again. For about an hour of testing, no issues. i used: sudo apt-get install lxde-core xserver-xorg xinit

as it was the only one i could get to load. I would like a gui on my rpi, so a working method or a substitution gui would be appreciated. I was going to test taking my old tvservice file and moving it but my linux laptop is down so i cant modify the files since they are in use. Thanks.
