      Hi there,
I now have Atari 2600, N64, NES, Coleco , PS1 running but am having issues getting C64 VICE up and going.
I installed VICE from the optional builds (binaries) and have placed ROMS into the "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/c64" folder as erquired. After rebooting C64 shows up and when I select a ROM I just get a blank screen and it drops back to the C64 ROM list.
The WIKI does not indicate a BIOS is needed so is there anything else I am missing ?
      Any help appreciated.
      Thanks.

      RetroPie Version Used: 4.1

Actually I fixed it via a different route.
I uninstalled VICE, and then instead of reinstalling from binaries I reinstalled from source.
It took quite a while as it looks like it downloaded the source, compiled and built the program but it now works fine.
Is the end result similar ? i.e. the footprint on the SD card roughly the same or is it cluttered with the source files now ?

The source files get deleted after compilation. When you compile from source you get the latest version from current development which might be different than the one used for the binary. So it might be better but also it might be worse. :)

I only tested it with a couple of files last night but seems to be working fine.
If I get time I may uninstall the instillation created by source and reinstall the installation from binary.
However if it's working OK I may just leave it alone :-)
Will test more over the weekend.
              Thanks !

Vice had some missing library dependencies. Rebuilding from source would have worked since it would have built without the support for the missing libraries. This was fixed a couple of weeks ago (but after 4.1 image), so if you update retropie-setup first the binary install should work.

Had the same issue with the emulator appearing to install OK but when selecting games the screen would go black for a few seconds and then drop back into the file selection list.

Several uninstall / re-install made no improvement

Tried to install from source but then kept getting an error referring to a missing folder

Finally did an update of RetroPie itself and then a VICE install from binary and a binary update

C64 now working and all games play fine but have only loaded .d64 / .tap files.

C64 performance seems pretty decent too

In short would recommend updating RetroPie before trying to sort the emulator

misread - thought you were asking for help sorry. Not sure what the problem was but it should work out of the box. If you have further issues please do start a new topic though.
