access denied

Hi guys,
how can i transfer a theme to etc as when i try to to use winspc it gives me back access denied ? thanks -
@bisus that is because of user permissions...
It's easier to install ES themes using the RetroPie_Setup script -
@iconrumble Quick question. I have been trying to change my themes for my new install of RetroPie 3.7 on Pi3 with no luck. I am connected to the internet and can ssh into my Pie. I can access the RetroPie_Setup script using my F310 controller but if I try to install any theme but the defauld 'carbon', it fails. Thanks

@glennlake Did you update your retropie-setup script (option "U" on the main menu)?

I'm very new in this world, could please point a tutorial to do this ?
thanks -

@iconrumble It was simpler than that. It seems the themes update doesn't like my wifi but I tried the ethernet connection and all is fine. :-)
-
thanks iconrumble but i'm trying to upload a modifed theme that i have on my pc, is this still the same method ? I've found on youtube a video with modfied file to add a power button the the menu but need to modified the theme and uploaded agani on my raspberry
-
@bisus to keep it simple, you can copy your modified theme to the ROMs folder (using samba or winscp), than go to ES ->retropie -> file manager, from where you can move it to the etc folder (the file manager is automaticaly run as superuser so from it you have access to the full the filesystem)

great man this can work for me
thanks a lot -
@bisus better practise is to just put your theme in
/home/pi/.emulationstation
-
@herb_fargus
would those work as well from this position ?thanks
-
@bisus yes. They may need to be in a themes folder like it is for the other themes
-
@herb_fargus
can I put the es_systems file there as well ?
thanks -
@bisus yep es_systems.cfg can go there too- you'll just need to manually sync any new changes when you add new systems etc. Anything in the .emulationstation folder won't be overwritten on updates.
-
I made the stupid mistake of using the password "rasberry" instead of "raspberry"
Maybe you did the same?
-
@bisus put the theme in /opt/retropie/all/emulationstation/themes/ and user pi shouldnt get permission denied.
