So, I've seen other posts about fixing configurations for controllers but I'm still in a rut.
Setup: I've got an original SNES and NES controller via Tomee adapter, and a XBOX 360 wired, running Emulation Station on a RP3. SNES and XBOX controllers work fine, in all games.

On bootup of a game, I also see all controllers are configured correctly. However, the NES controller works in ES and RP UI but not in games. I've gone into Retroarch and configured the NES controller manually and made sure to save settings on exit; still no dice.

So, that's where I'm at. I have a weird suspicion I might have missed something basic somewhere, but wouldn't know where, as everything else is working just fine - the other two controllers worked immediately.

      Appreciate the help!

(eg what version of RetroPie etc)

If you have just the nes controller in does it work ? Does RetroArch flahs it up on the screen when you boot a game ? I would reconfigure in ES, and go from there (along with any additional info you can provide)

Sure. I have Retropie 4.1 and a Raspberry Pi 3B.

Like I mentioned in the post, the controller works when plugged in, just not when gaming. Also mentioned, all controllers show up as configured on a game boot. I've also reconfigured in ES as well as RetroArch. All the settings save out after a reboot, so I'm not sure what else to do.

@sixfootewok It'll be seeing the Xbox pad as player 0 (so player 1). Disconnect it and try again, or look into the retroarch controller select script from the wiki so you can define which device is used as the first player.
